    Good afternoon all,

Last year we bought and installed a 4500L rainwater tank, a month later the Vic government brings in a rebate to people who buy & install tanks. Just missed it, not happpy [:O][:(]

Two months ago I had to buy a new washing machine and a new dishwasher…You guessed it, now you can get a rebate for AAA (I think) water rated washing machines and dishwashers!!!!![:O]

    Now I’m really, um, annoyed…..[:(!]

Totally unrelated to this forum, but I just needed to get that off my chest. Thanks for the opportunity,

    Sue

Hell yes, I have a dishwasher!

At one stage I had 4 kids, 5yrs and under. A hell of a lot a dishes and no-one with any energy left to wash them [xx(]
(Besides our first dishwasher we bought from our winnings at our one and only trip to the casino![8D])

OK the kids are older now, and you’re right, goddamit, they should wash some dishes [}:)]

Then again, they’re about to turn into teenagers, I don’t think they’ll be washing any dishes then [:(]
Now all I need is a dishwasher that will load itself and put the dishes back in the cupboard…[^].

    Hi Powmow,

My daughter gets pocket money for clearing the dinner table and loading the dishwasher!
My eldest son gets money for setting the dinner and breakfast table.
My youngest son gets $1 a day to pick up the dog droppings from the back yard, big fat dog, not a pleasant job! [:O]
My middle son gets no money, he doesn’t have a need yet. He’s a bit of a sweet, sensitive hippy type.

    Cheers,

    Sue [:)]

Give the kids encouragement, advice and love. They can get their own money.

We sort of do the same “chores”..

On the weekend, Pinky goes to work.. we all have jobs to do. And they love playing on the computer, or with their mice and rats. So the deal is… “when your jobs are done, you can do what ever you want… “

Mine is usually. Clean and vacuum the master bedroom, vac the hall/lounge, etc (general pick-up) Do about 3 loads of washing (even though I have taught my eldest to use the washing machine and how to load it… hehehe)

    The eldest:
wash the dishes, change the mice cage, clean and vac your room.

    The youngest:
Change the kitty litter, clean the kitchen table, put out any rubbish you can find, clean and vac your room, etc.

Then we can all play.. LOL [:D]

    Regards,
    Arty.

Don’t pay your kids to do chores. This only sets up a worker’s mentality. Give them an allowance and teach them how to invest and grow it, how to set goals and achieve them, teach them the value of money. By all means make them do the chores, but only because they are a member of your family and because they’re expected to. Not because they’re going to get paid for it. Read RK’s book about it if you’re a parent, and he’ll teach you to understand that we need to educate our kids about all things financial. Something most of our parents failed to teach us.

we dont pay the kids pocket money. The jobs they do at home are expected of them because they help create the mess. I refuse to clean their rooms….they are old enough to do it themselves LOL

They get money for school lunches and they always ask for cash at xmas and birthdays. They are allowed to buy big presents they are saving for….or whatever they want with money they haved saved (we do try and direct them towards saving and banking tho)

My eldest turned 10 in August….and she still has the $23.65 left over from her Bday. She counts her money every week…and has no interest in spending it…..YET!! LOL

I understand where you are coming from AoreEstate.
Although the kids get some money for doing their chores, they also do other things, like clean their rooms, which they are not paid for. We also give them money sometimes for special treats.

Kids do need to be taught how to invest their money.
    I have read RK’s books.
You still have to do some kind of work, to earn some kind of money, so that you can invest it as you choose and build up your assets.

I guess my reasoning comes from our line of work. My husband is a self employed plumber. We have had 5 different apprentices over the last year. Not one lasted more than six weeks. They seem to have no desire to work. Plumbing is manual labour and not easy work, but maybe if they could turn up more than 4 days out of 5, or within say 15 minutes of their requested start time, it would help!

Now i am rambling. I guess I just want to instil in my children a satisfaction and some reward for a job well done. If you do your job well, you will be rewarded. AND with those rewards you can do magical things by investing it wisely.
Even the rich Babylonians worked hard for their money.

    Sorry about the thesis [:I]

    Keep smiling,

    Sue [:)]

I suppose we use the “barter system”.. if you clean your room, you can play on the computer.. or we cant leave for nanas until the lounge room is cleaned up.. LOL [:D]

    Hey Arty,

We use that system as well, anything to get people moving around here.
“Barter” is a nice would for it, others might call it “bribery’ [;)] (Spelling?)
