Dog – tastes like pork, just don’t think about it
Snake – like chicken
Eagle – quite a strong taste
Laeve, bees and a selection of other insects and bugs, usually deep fried – mushy but tasty
Scorpion – very crunchy and not too bad when deep fried
Ducks Tongues – disgusting [xx(]
When I was in Beijing on my acupuncture study trip, I was given black heart soup. Don’t ask me what it was made from, but I tried it, thinking it was soy that made it that colour, and after 1 spoonful, I refused to eat any more and my fellow Chinese student said “Black heart soup…very good for phlegm, you don’t want more?” I gave him my bowl. After that, I went to the local Friendship store and bought lot’s a noodles, just and boiling water (kettle) and ate that for about 2 weeks.
I loved my trip to Beijing, especially our special celebratory lunch at the Summer Palace (reserved for VIP’s) that was delicious.
Now when I want something different to try, I go to Springvale shopping strip.
(oh… I’ve eaten sheep’s pancreas too)
Mainly ovo-lacto vegetarian now, but not strict.
Cheerio

Kangaroo prepared properly is pretty Farkn fantastic!
(looking at the roadkill – you just sigh – and go go figure.)
a natural pest here is being wasted. (let alone hitting one on a motorcycle – new dread since relocating)
NZ has possums as roadkill – and they have no appeal for me at all. (at least they hopefully wont kill me if i hit them when out on the road!
NB: cant wait to go to asia again, and try all the crazy bugs/animals that everyone goes ‘yuck'(because of their culture) …. live once – whatever kills you – you wont know anyway.
I had squid that was still alive (the body was sliced but the head was still wiggling) in japan.
it was a great honour apparently so we had to try some.
I didn’t like it. it was gross. though i love sushi, i loathe raw squid (wonder why??!)
though i’ve never eaten it, I have a recipe for possum stew including the trapping and skinning part. If anyone wants it! Pretty wild!! (note o animal lovers, Unlike Aussie where they are protected in NZ possums were an introduced species with no natural enemy and they have spread to being a complete pest now that eats the delicate native seedlings not to mention kiwi eggs, etc
I ate some things I didn’t even know what they were when spending time living with the aborigine’s. A couple I remember were echidna and crocodile, the crocodile made me quite ill, but the echidna was like a cross of lamb and chicken.
I forgot to tell you what my dad likes to eat…
how about a sweetmilk (condensed milk) with peanut butter and sardines sandwich. I’ll never forget when I ended up with his lunch in my lunchbox by accident. I was sick for a week.
Cheers
