Does anyone know the best way of getting top dollar when you sell or trade in your car? I am sick and tired of getting low prices and the dealer making thousands more. [:(!] [:(!]

Don’t do it via a dealer. They lowball you and charge top dollar to punters off the street. That’s their margin. Sell privately or on consignment where you tell a car yard I want x dollars and anything above that is yours.

wrap it, its not as silly as it seems it is big business overseas and is relatively simple….
Grab a deposit and let your buyer make payments to you ….you’ll get top dollar and lots of buyers

send it to the auctions, the time and money isnt worth the private sale.

The auctions here clean it and make it look all bright and shiny, they try to sell it for you (in thier intrest too)if no sale you got a clean car.

advertise in the trading post or “Quokka” in WA, you get more money as a private sale.

firstly as with everything on this site research your prices, look at yahoo.com.au etc.. take it to a few dealers and get a ballpark-figure. pick up paperwork from the post office..

when you sell it give only your mobile number and present it in its best light, have service records available etc.. depends do you want to get rid of it quickly or wait for the price you want..s’up2u

    Rick,

So you would transfer the title on the car to their name.

and then register a financial interest in it (ie money owed on it)?

    if not… then how?

Hi Rick, I’ve actually done that here a few times. The trick is to make sure you don’t do too many or you need an agents licence. It is becoming popular with cars brought in from O/S. There are two main ways to do this (1) You find a buyer for a certain model car and get a deposit from them and use that deposit to buy the car O/S. Have the car shipped in through a third party and receive monthly payments until they buy it out right.

    (2) You buy a car with your own money that you know someone wants and do the same situation as premention.

The govt keeps changing the regs and are trying to close all the loop holes. There aren’t many left.

There no reason why you can’t do it with domestic cars that I know of as long as it’s not as a business. If I’m wrong could someone please provide correct info. Someone wrote on another forum about creating business that can bring in a few extra dollars a year and wrapping cars may be another.

I can see Steve’s new book. 0-130 and no speeding tickets in 3 Years.
