Know excactly how you feel. I’m 20 and fininshed school in 2000. Since then i’ve had a dozen uni applications rejected, have studied jazz, have worked in environmnetal conservation and rehabilitation, abbatoirs ( not a reccomended career move!) 2 apprenticeshiops, have possibliy bugged 1 or more of the people on this forum as a travelling saels rep for optus and have onl ever fully enjoyed 1 job- at a newsagncy in melbourne where i couldnt afford to live so am now in echuca. I still have no idea what i want to do. Proffesional invest where i dont have to deal with the rejection of continual job hunting would be great.
In a view to not making investment mistakes…you will. Everyone does. But by researching your investments before you make them you can minimaize the risk!

Wow – those 8 pages were an inteesting read! I don’t believe anyone is in my industry (except maybe the comedian!) I am a Stage Manager in Musical Theatre. This site has been very helpful to help me think through and come up with better plans. This was a great idea to get to know one another – nice question!
All ya need is a Year 10 Certificate for a wage job. I’m not in prop mgmnt, but had considered it many times as opposed to sales. 4 family members have been/are in the Real Estate game since the ’70s. Guess I have had influence from older brothers. Anyway, contact your REI office as a start. Courses are available to understand the law. e.g. A tenant is responsible for light globes; but a tenant also has more rights when it comes to vacating a lease. Licensing will sort the men from the boys if you choose to start up your own office, especially as there is in my opinion an over supply of agents. Commercial leasing operates differently somehow from residential. I’m not afeau’ (sic) with the conjunction/leasing/listing agreements here. This might be another specialised area for you to consider.
Failing that, just jump in. I considered offering my time free (on holidays from wage job) to learn prop mgmnt. If you’re keen, who would knock you back if you offered say a month of your time to them?

I’ve just hit my early 30’s, have almost paid off my PPOR in Sydney and am looking at investing in property, probably around Mackay / Townsville in the near future. (Have family up there and like the area)
The plan is to retire somewhere between 45 and 50 with 10 – 12 IP’s providing a passive income of around 2k per week before tax…

OK, chalk one more up to IT, I’m in fact an IT Trainer and I only work a couple of days a week so I love it. Actually I’ve just had our second child she’s 6 weeks old, so I get to spend most of my time catching up here during the 2am, 3am and 5am feeds (who said they feed four hourly???). We have 1 IP and I must confess to only putting the rent up 1 month ago… and not wanting to go above our repayments – you know keep it negative… (oops & @#$#!) … so you live and learn – well at least I hope you do. My poor tenants won’t be happy but they’ll have a huge increase in 6 months time (our rent is about 20 a week cheaper than most in the area!). Thanks Steve… if only I’d found you sooner []
