This should be an easy one… [:)]

Do you need council approval to change the floor plan of a house, ie: add/remove a wall to enclose/open up a room?

    Thanks, Leigh

    Hello Leigh!

My understanding of the issue is that you can move / pull out any walls that are not structural. A structural wall is one that is supporting the roof.

To clarify: if you remove a wall that is supporting the roof, and the roofline subsequently changes then you need to submit plans for building approval. Planning approval may also need to be sought if the use of the building changes, ie A single family house changed to two units.

If in doubt, contact your local council or shire.

    regards

    Marco
