Thanks very, very much for the information Michael, it's hard to find it on the net as most of the questions relate to if you owned the pergola and it's your policy.

I own one, neighbour owns pergola which is on her backyard land.  She bought it with house (that's what I've been informed) and it's attached to my house (haven't been aware of it due to structure of houses).

I was just worried that an insurance company might have a clause making one or both insurance policies for each house void if it was attached to my house, creating some kind of breach or contain flames.

I also wasn't sure what attention they paid to additions etc (ie, building code, council approval etc)

It's good to see insurance policies vary as it would be good to find one that supports this.

I can attach an overhead layout anyone needs a better visualisation.
