Up to a few weeks ago our family had a ’89 VW Transporter with 10 seats in it, and an ’89 Range Rover. Both were petrol powered. But with the price of petrol going up I couldn’t afford to run them. So we sold both and bought a ’95 VW Caravelle and a ’92 Range Rover, both dual fuel LPG/ Petrol. The cost to change over both cars was a total of about $10 000.
Because we still have 7 children at home both cars tend to be in use all the time. we find that our fuel savings are approaching $100 per week for both cars. If we calculate the cost of the money at say 10%, that is $1000 per annum, or about $20 per week. So we are $80 a week better off and driving much nicer cars!
Does my financial mathematics make sense, or am I kidding myself?
Why A Caravelle? I haven’t worked out how to fit 7 kids in a Rangie!
Why a Rangie? I like it! And we need two cars.
So our cars are a ’95 VW Caravelle and a ’92 Range Rover Vogue SE. Both run most of the time on LPG.

Just a query for Michael Whyte:
Does the “all inclusive, forward looking left” also include the “divisive, intollerant, short term looking right”? Or are they intolerant of the right?
