Yep, I reckon you’re onto it. I have felt this for some time, but haven’t been able to get down yet. Sale used to be quite cheap, but prices have really picked up. Lakes Entrance would be a good buy & hold area I reckon.
Well where do we start? My name is Del and I’m married to William. We have 2 girls – Sarah 5.5 and Chloe 4.5 years old. They’re at prep & kinder.
We are asparagus farmers and live on a farm at KooWeeRup in West Gippsland VIC, I own 3 horses, which is now my 2nd biggest passion. Property investing has pushed…[Read more]
On the subject of the drought, being farmers ourselves in Victoria (asparagus), I can only say that I really believe the next 12 months are going to be as tough as the last.
For many farmers, Asia is their biggest market, and with the SARS virus, Japanese recession etc., our drought is only adding to the doom and gloom.
I’m looking REALLY HARD for another property.
If I can find one, you’re on!!
The flight will be on me.
We do our renovating, long days over short period of time. It is so satisfying when it’s done though, it’s almost payment enough for the boost to your confidence and the motivation it gives you to do it again, I reckon.
I too, did a similiar thing today. I rung up the personnel agency that I was a week away from starting a 6 month temporary full time assignment with, and said that I am now unable to do that assignment.
I’m just not going to have the time to work FOR SOMEONE ELSE!!!!! You know what the best thing is that it felt…[Read more]
It actually wasn’t me (thank goodness)!! that Steve made the deal about chopping off her hair, I was standing next to her. I have made the deal with myself that if I can’t replicate what I (I mean WE, incl.my husband) have achieved in the last 3 months, that I will sell 1 of my 3 horses, which will be VERY HARD TO DO. I am…[Read more]
We have not long ago arrived home and just put our two 4 and 5 year old girls to bed (their nana babysat all weekend)!!!
We felt the seminar was fantastic value for money, and we really enjoyed putting some faces to names, especially Sooshie and AD. It was great to see that most of the people doing really well in investing are just…[Read more]
I only have one ppty in the valley, at Traralgon, which was bought one month ago (for $80,000). I have spent the last month doing a reno incl. paint outside & inside, new bathroom, new kitchen, new laundry, new downpipes & gutters, etc. etc. spending about $7,000, and have just listed it for rent for $170 p.w. Apart from a down turn…[Read more]
I am not retired, but after joining this forum less than 2 mths ago, I have since bought 2 I.P. houses, and one block of 4 units in Victoria, all returning 10%+.
This is only a starting poing, however, these alone mean that I could work 2 days less a week if I chose to. Who would want to retire when Steve is teaching us all such…[Read more]
We have our own business (an asparagus farm) and have large business loans, and now P.I. loans. We have our total debt covered by insurance, but as you say it can be VERY expensive doing this.
Our superannuation fund pays the insurance. It is MUCH cheaper to do this. Perhaps you could enquire with your accountant.
Thanks for the great advice. $440 isn’t much when you look at what they can save you. Isagold, I hadn’t thought of a digital camera. The properties I am buying are up to 3 hours away from Melbourne city, so this makes good sense.
Thanks all for the replies.

I think that we can all relate to your fears. My advice may seem a bit simplistic, but here it is anyway.
When you are satisfied you have found an area which you are happy with, start small. Buy something that doesn’t need $15,000 spent on it to make it liveable. (You can try these later on!) With the global uncertainty at the…[Read more]
