Hey Jason,
I often hear people say that it is harder,if not impossible, for self employed to secure finance. But my experience has been somewhat easier…..I have been self employed in the building industry (the stability of which fluctuates wildly),and yet I have never bene knocked back for finance for my home, car, two IPs etc…I don’t know if it is that I have been with this one bank all my life, all myaccounts are with them, including loans and business accounts, and they can see exactly what I do with my money.Or maybe it is just that my business banking manager is a good bloke!

I would hardly call the reno brothers experts.I cringe when I read their weekly column in the Sunday Herald Sun in Melbourne, the crap they dribble, and the advice they give as “experts” to people who want to DIY.They should stick to medicine and accounting, and leave renovations to QUALIFIED tradesmen.

Hey Mifsud,
There has been much discussion on this board about Richmastery.I personally haven’t had any dealings with them, but try using the search function for more info.

Hi Jason,
ASIC deals with this sort of thing and has much info on their website about these scams
http://fido.asic.gov.au/fido/fido.nsf.
But it has been my experience that it is a waste of time contacting them.I once lost 40 big ones in a scheme that turned out to be a scam, and even though it was under their umbrella, they did nothing to help me.I would just delete the emails and forget it,but that’s just my opinion!Tools
thanks Matt…only prob is email address is already being used for one of the other profiles,so I need to delete the oither profiles to free up the address.
Hey Yack,
IMHO,a fair percentage of members here will already be scouring those sites in their own search,so they will find these deals themselves anyway. You really need to tap in to your own source if you want to be hitting people up for a fee.

This probably isn’t exactly what you are looking for,but it may be of some use to you.

Hi Fullout,
In a word, yes, you can tile directly over existing tiles. But before you decide to go this route, consider how the extra thickness will affect existing surfaces.Consider wether or not you will be happy to see the additional thickess around the edges.Check how it will finish against shower screens etc.Shower bases have a rebate along the top edge that allows the tile to finish flush with the vertical edge of the base, and adding an extra 7 or 8 mm will give a poor finish around the bottom.Existing tap handles may not be suitable for the extra thickness and you may need to replace with extended spindles.Check there is enough thread on bath spouts and shower roses too,or these may need to be extended if they are at their max now. When dealing with floors, consider how you will neatly finish around toilet pans and pedestal basins.Doors may need to be cut down too.At the end of the day,you won’t get as good a finish as if you start with a new substrate. But if you do decide to do it,ensure the existing tiles are all soundly fixed, and make sure you tell them at the tile shop what you are doing,as not all adhesives are suitable.

Another tell tale sign that you may have asbestos is the colour. If the sheet is unpainted, and looks pink or green,it will be asbestos.Any corrugated roof sheets will almost definitely be asbestos.

Hi guys,
Instead of changing the whole lock, cylinders can be changed on some locks,or else just take the cylinder to a locksmith and have them re key it.That will cost about $10 – $12 per cylinder. So if you have a Lockwood 001 deadlatch for example,it would cost only $20 – $ $24

That sounds great until the tax man catches up with him,and he is liable far tax, gst, superannuation etc…..or worse still if the employee injures himself at work and your friend has no workcover,he will lose his profits, and more, and get taken to the cleaners (no pun intended!) for not having a workcover policy in the first place. It just isn’t worth the risk.

Hi xyzzy,
It is the building manager/developer that has the liquidators in (or will have at 3 this afternoon). My concern is that if any money is owed to the building managers from the body corporate, the liquidators will go after that, and as they have access to the funds, they may just take what they think they are entitled to.We are having a BC meeting this afternoon at 3 where will will throw out the old managers/body corporate, and regain control ourselves as owners.Hopefully we get to do that before the liquidators roll in and get their greasy hands on whatever is left.Thamks for your reply.Tools
Hi mini…..great post. One question…what does GV stand for? thanks in advance.Tools
Hey Bill, looks liek you are a bit of a night owl……
I am actually in Melbourne…long story, but I can’t change the state on my profile.
I don’t understand what the problem is with your building. Are you concerned just because it is lime mortar? If so,I wouldn’t be concerned. There is nothing wrong with lime as long as it is in good condition.Or has it deteriorated? My house was built in 1912,has lime mortar, and it is almost in perfect condition.I did however re-point the front walls that face west and receive all the weather. But that was only because someone had the bright idea of painting the beautiful red bricks, and in removing the paint, the tuck popinting was damaged as well.
