    To take a tangent, I agree with TheFinanceShop's post above, about palings being more appealing than colourbond. That said; which is better from investment property standpoint?

    Let's assume on ChrisA1's property colourbond is $900, what would be cost of the palings?

    As I understand it, should expect palings to last 20 years. How long does the colourbond go?

    If you google the address of the property, it gives you the past sale information anyways. You also find other interesting bits and pieces, including old rental adverts, sometimes history. When I googled my address of PPOR prior to buying it, I also googled next door (because house is a semi) – either way, next door had some soldier information from wwi pop up – which I think all adds to the character of the home.

    –> in case my point got lost, google the address.

    To add my few cents to the conversation, I used to live in Wollongong and I knew a lot of people who commuted to Campbeltown for work. (Were these friends nurses? Possibly, I can't remember).

    But either way, I do like the position of campbeltown between Sydney and proximity to Wollongong beaches – something which Western Sydney doesn't have going for it!

    To broaden the scope;

    Would it be worth borrowing 10k to buy an IP if you had say the other 10k

    Just a wondering from my end.

    In Australia we hear so much said about investors from China and Japan coming in and buying up Australia. When you think Australians are quite happy to pop abroad and do the same thing, it kind of puts it in perspective with the various standards being applied.

    BigGaz, i very much enjoyed your post on risk. +1

    Hi Sundance;

    I can't offer you an answer on your insurance, but wanted to ask, what made you choose Tamworth?

    As a curious bystander to international politics without any real knowledge, what effect would this have on Australia and property in your opinion Freckle?
