Hi,
I'm also a female travelling down on my own to the seminar – but am travelling down on Thursday (I'm not a morning person!). If anyone is doing the same please let me know.

Wow, a measly 50, thank goodness I am signed up for the next financial year R.E.S.U.L.T.S program! I do have a PPOR that it going well though but not much chance of moving and renting it out, the rents here in Canberra are going crazy! My first IP is just starting to take off now. *shakes her head*
Thanks Boshy, I'll give that a whirl.
Sorry for the delay Boshy…
AFP have a recruitment drive on now – I'm so sorry I didn't think to add that – go to the website tonight and get the info – http://www.afp.gov.au They have IT positions going BUT IT'S DUE ON THURSDAY 30TH!
The IT section of the AFP doesn't require a degree, just skills in the area that you are applying for. You don't have to become sworn (sworn = general duties, investigators, etc unsworn = IT, forensics, HR, logistics, etc). The overseas deployment arm of the AFP is expanding on a big scale over the next year or so – so keep an eye out at the afp website listed above for oportunities.
Where are you based?
merryc,
Granite Transformations are in almost every state now, under that name. I've just booked them in for my PPOR kitchen. They're going to do the benchtops, doors and replacing the drawers for me. I'm going to put in the wall cupboards, rangehood and microwave cabinet.
I will be re-tiling around the benchtop – to that end I have a question: I have old tiles around my kitchen that were painted over with White Knight Tile Paint – it did a great job but I want to remove the tiles to update them. Does anyone know – can I just chip them off with a chisel? The walls are concrete…..
The other alternative to interstate mining work is international work – as part of the Australian Federal police staff members as well as Protective Services and sworn members are able to work in the Solomon Islands. So IT, HR and Forensic unsworn members get great opportunities to boost their income with tax exempt earnings.
It can be tough – IT members can do short 4 month rotations but other areas have to sign up for at least 60 weeks. The Australian Federal Police employ staff in most states, not just the ACT. Sworn staff from other states also can work in the Solomon Islands, East Timor, Sudan, Nauru – different levels of risk and interest. It does take some time to get through the application process into the AFP but there are great opportunities.
You could use realestate.com to narrow down your search then use alternative sites, such as the direct real estate sites in the area you are interested in or check out their local paper (if they put property listings on their website).
I did find it easier to travel through a regional area and spend at least a day per town you are interested in, to meet the local agents and check out the lay of the land, especially identifying the bad areas of town.
I'm only a beginner though, so I will be interested to see what other suggestions non-travellers come up with….
Thanks for the replies so far.
Am still kinda interested in QLD and starting to check out NSW and down to VIC. Will see how my energy levels hold up!
Does anyone know of good buyers agents in the Mackay/Townsville area? *raised eyebrow*
