Lots of old houses in WA have “sleepouts” too. They almost always are the old verandah that’s been closed in. Usually bloody cold in the winter and bloody hot in the summer… Also they almost always are located in the most inconvenient places in the house. Or they are located on the edge of the edge of the house…
Cheers

Gee Crashy, sounds like a hard thing to put up with. Crap water. COuldn’t think of anything worse.
I like what debtdog said about the water being a health risk. Eveyone has the right to clean water if it is available, and you shouldn’t accept it at the current state.
Your property manager should have fixed that as soon as you requested it. I would ring and speak to the principal of the R/E agency to see if that gets you anywhere.
Good luck and DON’T put up with it!
Steph.P.s maybe your local water corp people could help you out. Seriously, get a health inspector out. Your paying ofr something your not receiving!

WAyne, Trees r green are certainly the place to go for budget plants. Even other plants as a filler you can get ppunnets for 50c and stuff. Very cool.
Cane palm were about $15 for a young plant, about $50 for a 2 metre tall one at Bunnings. Well that’s the price up here in GEro, assuming all bunnings are same prices…
We have stupid coc palms here at our place and I hate them!!! Stupid bloody orange berries all over the joint, is pissing me off!!!! GRRRR.
Thank god it is school holidays soon.

Having lived in Uk for a bit, I would definitely recommend carpet in the bedroom. I certainly wouldn’t want cold floorboards during winter! You want nice carpet for your tootsies…
At the opposite end of the scale here in Aus, it was cheaper for us to polish up existing floorboards than to buy even crappy carpet.
Hope it helps.

I don;t understand why your broker did know about it. We’ve just signed paperwork with ANZ and as it was a condition of the loan, we had to get it.
Bit confused how broker didn’t know…
I dunno Mandankumars,
I am a permanent aussie resident(as is my husband) and we had trouble getting a loan when we returned form UK. THe biggest thing banks want is a six month employment history and they gernerally don’t accept overseas employment as valid.Maybe it will be different for you, but just telling you what happened when we got back from overseas.

Myoung,
We looked at a house with an asbestos roof and made enquiries to how much to get it removed and we had approximations from $5000 – $10 000. And that doesn’t include the colourbond sheeting. THat’s just removal of the asbestos! These are country WA prices.Needless to say we didn’t buy it, but we bought the house next door…
he roof only needs replacing if it is damaged. I wouldn’t go replacing it until I absolutely had to. Hope this has helped. Probably wont coz the removal costs vary around the country.
Steph/This is more a come back than a saying…
“Care factor is zero…”
Michael, how can you compare dismal ol’ england to Sunny Geraldton?? I hated living in UK. It again was our choice, and we learnt lots from it, but we still hated living with the crappy weather.
I think I’ll take 300 days of sun a year over 300 days of gloom anyday… Plus we have inbuilt air conditioners every afternoon which saves us heaps on air con!!! HEe hee, winds aren’t that bad up here. You get used to them.
Just went and applied for finance on the new house. Can’t wait for it to come through. Cross my fingers…

Supa freak, we used to say,
“Eat more, drink more, sink more piss!”
Maybe that’s what your thinking of.

I have to agree. A bloody top spot to buy a house. Wht more would you want. Ocean, river and a highway 1km away on your doorstep. Not to mention the new shopping complex going up down the road. A very cool area.
We loved it when we were renting there so that’s why we chose to look around there for our PPOR when we have kiddies. Wonthella will do for the moment, but I am looking forward to a bigger house…Plus walking to the beach again… Sigh… I love this life style up here. Bugger the city. I can honestly say, I don’t think I wanna live in the city again.
My choice of course…
Oh well, live and learn. Our place we are living in now had a similar problem. The tenant was one of the biggeset drug dealers in Gero and she didn’t want to move because the house was sold. We specifically wanted vacant possession and wrote it as a condition. That way, the lease is totally null and void. Hee hee, the end of our story was quite funny. The previous owner knew the tenant as it was his ex-wifes mate. So all he did was come over the house with a trailer and started chucking her crap in it. What do reckon the druggie did? Call the police? I think not! She had to just take it and move. I have no idea where she went but good bloody riddance to her… Her face said it all… Priceless. Settlement over a couple of days and they were supposed to be penalised but we couldn’t have cared less just as long as it was empty.

I done all Christmas shopping already! There was big sale at shop up here and I went to town for presents. Cost me about $100 for 6 peoples presents and that was 50% off original price. Awesome!!!
We have started a gift box as well. Each time we see something nice that we think would be good for someone for Christmas or BDay present, we buy it and stash it in a box. By the time Christmas or Bday comes along, dig box out, see what goodies you got and allocate it to someone. It’s all a little bit of fun looking in box, like another mini Xmas for you too!
Hee hee. I think do the above would stop the “Oniomania”….me not public. Me private… School run by nuns, that’s all I’ll say…

Hmmm, well I got one from when I was about 15.
I was a checkout chick at the local wollies store. One day this lady came through and she was fairly young but she had what looked like a pregnant belly. So I foolishly asked “So, when you due?” OOOOOPPPPSSSS!!
“I’m not pregnant…”
Shit! I didn’t say another word to her other than apologising profusely. She started badgering me asking if she looked fat and why would I say something like that… I wasn’t to know! To this day, I never ask a woman if she’s pregnant unless she states so.
Geez….

This one was a favourite one of mine when I was in my late teens early twenties… Needless to say I don’t remeber some of it.
“A life lived sober, is a life half lived.” Hee hee…
My husbands favourite would have to be,
“Go hard or go home!”

Marc it’s a shame you had such a dishonest tenant, but not all us dog owners are so bad. We rented with a little dog and he didn’t do any damage at all, we kept him flea treated and left the house absolutely spotless.
Shame on the property manager for not picking up on the lawn much quicker. At one place, we had a written warning because it was middle of summer and the lawn started to brown even though we were watering it… Sigh…
Hope you can recoup your money. (I do agree $100 per pet, but it should still be refundable…)thanks michael. WE are a little nervous but we going to see accountant now to sort our finances. All very exciting too.
Gotta go!
