Actually Bwenden, he WAS the bad boy… But he did a really bad, bad boy impression… Hee hee….

Not quite what my mother expected, but she’s grown to love him.

Me? Love him to bits, even when he sh*ts me to tears.

The classic, met him at a party… Friend of a friend. Didn’t like him at first. Took me 6 months to realise what I was missing out on. Luckily he wasn’t nabbed. Finally came to my senses… He thankfully kept pursuing me…

Ha ha ha!! Calvin!! I was kinda like you. I rang the venue place that we had booked in Perth, told them politely where they could stick their venue.

Hubby left a message on parents answering machine wedding was cancelled, told my parents and then walked out. Basiclly we didn’t talk to anyone about it until we had sorted out what we exactly wanted and the beautiful thing was that my hubby was fully into making sure he got what he wanted too.

My brother was really blase with his wedding and let his wife run riot. 165 guests, $35-45K later… I thin you get the gist of it… His was 8 weeks before ours and it just confirmed how much we didn’t want that hooha crap!

I think the best mentality we had, was that we saw it as a party and not a wedding. That way we didn’t have false expectations and we just went with the flow. I forgot my hairpin thingys and my mum started panicking. I turned to her and said, “Mum, I really couldn’t give a toss about the hair pins. Don’t fret.” She immediately calmed down and there was no probs. Bridesmade dashed back and got them…

    An unforgettable day…

I think you guys have got the wrong idea. It isn’t a day, it’s a week, and when I say recourse, I don’t mean sue, I mean complain to someone about them! The compensation wouldn’t be for me, but the vendor. They’re the ones who have really been inconvenienced. NOt really us. We are just super annoyed becuase they said it WOULD go through on the friday. It doesn’t settle until NEXt thursday.

MOnopoly, settlements agents is another name for conveyencer over here. We both agreed on the date back in November sometime. So the conveyencer knew well in advance when we wanted it sorted by.

Perhaps I was a little heated at that stage saying I should be compensated, but I was damn close to getting our PM to advertise property first thing monday. So I am glad we didn’t.

I had no idea that the vendors were using the same agent. I am so annoyed at how blase’ they are about it all though. In her message when she(Conveyencer) told me it wasn’t going through, she said, “If you have a problem call the principal.” So I thin she knows we were gonna be really p*ssed.

I didn’t want to get into an argument on friday. So I think I shall just write a rather heated letter to the Principal (of the conveyencer) and let him know how disgusted I was with their service.

    Cheers for other views though…
    Steph.
p.s. I just feel really sad for the vendor as they really want to finish it all. It has been their house for 30 years and wanted a clean break. Poor things…

We might get down that way mid year. So many family commitments coming up! First grandchild is due in a couple of weeks so all that hooha will be happening. Not me having kiddy either…

We used to stay down in Miami occassionally. That was always good fun down there. Fond memories as a kid…

Yeah, Dawesville Channel was brilliant when they cut it through. I remember crabbing down there was fab a couple years after. Crabs everywhere!!!

Even so, I still find it really smelly. THen again, same can be said of the seaweed up here in Geraldton. We cop a whiff of it rotting every now and then at school. Smells like a super rotten fart… Hee hee… I always make fun of the kids when that smell is around…

    I find Mandurah a bit smelly…

I know, I know, that has absolutely nothing to do with investing, well it kinda does… I wouldn’t want to live somewhere smelly.

Marisa, where do you invest? I mean the old parts of Mandurah have pretty much had nothing done to them. My aunty lives in Coodanup and that area is still really stagnant. And I not just talking about the river water… When I say stagnant, the prices are going up but nothing is really happening in the area. No beautification etc… Then again, I’m not sure of what the council plans to do.

I don’t know that I would invest down that way. But that’s me. For that sort of price, you could probably get a reasonable house in Bunbury in a half decent area too. ???

I’m interested to others comments too…

    Oh gatsby,
a small “win”… At least the issue has been documented that you had a problem etc, so if it comes up again, it’s already there.

Just remember, the sun will always rise tomorrow.

Oh, and Blondie, if a venue won’t cater for what you want, it isn’t worth the trouble. Find another place. Try getting out of Brisbane a little and see what’s around the outskirts. Maybe look for the caterer first then the venue, coz most people remember the food and not really the venue.

You have crap food, everyone remembers that!!!

    Sonja,
sounds like a similar story to mine!! Maybe not to the same extent but close!

Blondie, you and your fiance are the ones who will ultimately remember you wedding the most. As for everyone else, screw them!! My hubby and I only wanted a small wedding and we had it all worked out when we were on holiday in South Africa.

When we got home, well, did it al change. We explained that we only wanted 30 people (That’s immediate family and very best friends only) and that we wanted it this way, then my parents said no they want ot invite this person and that person and they will pay, then his parents chimed in that my parents were invinting more people than them and tehre was no way they were going to pay for their guests… Ithink you get the picture. Well anyway, the guest list suddenly made a dsh to the 100 mark.

Paul and I were getting very upset that it wasn’t what we wanted, the caterers were being bastards and we just wanted it all to be over. So we cancelled it.
    Shocked everyone!

We took off for a weekend down to Margaret River (Wine region in WA), checked out some places to stay and reception joint, and within one day we had organised our whole wedding!

Because we left Perth (any place in perth, as soon as you said wedding, the price tripled. We got two quotes. One for a party, then a wedding), they seemed to value more what we wanted and we felt, becuase people would have to make an effort to get down there, there wouldn’t be so much drama.

So we eneded up with 41 people, a perfect recption place that charged reasonable amounts of money ($50 a head and it was 5 star service!) and a gorgeous back drop.

My mother-in-law still holds a bit of hurt and lots of arguments happened before the wedding, but I tell you what, we had one hell of a day coz people still talk about it 3 years later…

We didn’t listen to anything from either of our paents and just went ahead and booked what we wanted. We had decided to pay so any money they gave us was extra. In total, I think it cost us around the $7000 mark. That’s pretty good really. The wedding went for 12 hours too!!

ANyway, stay true to what you and your fiance want and don’t let others perception of your day get in the way. Learn to nod your head then do what you want anyway!!

Goood luck and keep us up to date!

CRJ is on teh right track. Applying to get a copy of the plans and building approvals from the council is relatively easy. They cost between $20-70 depending on the council.

Hee hee, or you could be in our position where our house is pre-council keeping records, so even if we put something up, council can’t take it down coz they can’t prove when it was put up!!! HA HA HA!!! Not that we would do that, but hey….

If the granny flat isn’t approved, I would find out what hoops you would have to jump through to get it approved and the cost and have that money plus 10% (gotta allow a little extra!) to be taken off the contract price.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Bloody hell! I saw photos tonight on the news! I haven’t seen Perth that thick with smoke since CALM cocked up one of their “Controlled Burnoffs” years ago!

I’m glad we not there anymore! Mind you, there was a massive fire up our way last weekend that was right behind a mates house! A couple of houses from where we USED to live… Thankfully quite a few hundred metres form our house that settles on Friday…

YEs I agree. Hats off for firies! Oh volunteer firies too!

    [inlove][inlove][inlove]
Our story is romantic but stupid at the same time. We had been travelling on a round the world ticket and were on a Topdeck tour round Europe. We were in Rome (Of all places!!) and had had a marvellous day at the Colliseum, the forum, Vatican city (WE SAW THE POPE!!!WOOHOO!) and Sistine chapel.

The previous day we were at Trevi fountain and My hubby bought be a single rose. Absolutely gorgeous coz he doesn’t do that sort of thing normally! Anyway, I was already wearing my engagement ring as we had chosen it together when we were in Singapore and we didn’t want to lose it so the best thing was to wear it.

So, we had had a fantastic day, a marvellous dinner at this pub, lots of red wine to go with it, we stumbled back to our shack and were making love when we stopped, and he looked into my eyes and asked me literally 10 seconds before I was going to ask him! So no down on one knee for us!

We weren’t one for traditions and even our wedding didn’t have many traditions stuck in it.

So That moment is etched in my memory forever as it was one of the most romnatic times of my life.

Sigh… Hee hee… I look back and we were really really drunk at the time… Ha ha ha!!!

Just thought I’d add this about air cons. My nanna’s got a split system in her area of my parents house (No where else has air con!!) and she had it going almost continuously last winter (On warm of course!) due to her being rather ill.

My mum new how to maintain the filters, blah, blah, but wasn’t aware that if it was running practically 100% of the time, the filters would need to be cleaned a lot more often.

They found out the hard way and the compressor crapped itself due to blocked filters. Was going to cost them $1600 forr new compressor only, or $890 for whole new unit with new compressor. Go figure?!

My point is, make sure your tenant knows where the filters are and how to maintain them if they are using air con or the heating a lot of the time. I know when i had air con in my rental, we would use it almost 100% of the time in summer. WE even moved our bed into the dining room! HEe hee…

No chance now though… Oh well… Fans will have to do…Steph.

ah, you just do. ROB! We work bloody hard during our holidays too! I am going back this week even though I don’t need to go back until tuesday next week! Plus, to get all those holidays free, you have to work bloomin long hours during term otherwise you HAVE to do it on the holidays. No choice!

Kwilko, it has been very windy though. Wicked easterlies coming off the desert frying my poor defenceless plants… Poor things. How the hell am I suppose to get a garden going if the heat keeps killing it!! Water doens’t seem to work either!

ho hum.. maybve I will have to be satisfied I have a brown thumb, not a green thumb…
