I dropped into a citibank branch in china town melb and they advised me to ring up the branch in the US, they said I might be able to set up an US bank account over the phone. With the ID process I could get the local branch to verify the documents and then I could send the documents over to the US. Haven't called the bank yet but the process sounds very logical.
Also did some research on applying for ITIN numbers in Australia. Apparently it's pretty easy to do as well. Just google it and you'll find the answer.

Also what is your strategy? Are you planning to buy now, hold till it finishes and then sell straight away?
With the possibility of prices drops, like Steve Mcknight has said in his market updates, there is a possibility that prices might drop and that investors must be aware of it. Although it is pretty unlikely due to the conditions in our current market but you still have to be aware of it and be prepared. One way of preparing for it is to borrow only 80% so there will be a buffer just in case the price does drop.

Thanks for all your answers. So Caveat is essential to protect the option holders interest but it is still not fool proof. Worst case being bank takes back house, sells it under value and so the option holder loses out.
