Just read this thread and thought I would also add that many mining companies are doing a flyin-fly out deal with their employees. They live in other areas to the mine and the company charters a jet for each shift (weekly or whatever).
Just be on the lookout for this occuring in some of the smaller towns as it does happen reguarly.

Why the hell not – you obviously want to tell it!

Spent a bit of time in the bush, as well as camping, bushwalking etc. I also live on the border of Bobbin Head National Park. I have seen a few Diamond Pythons, Carpet Snakes and Red Bellies around here.
BTW, there are dangerous things in NZ…..
Sheep on heat!

I think there are a few that are more deadly than the Red Belly.
The King Brown gives about 15 minutes before your heart stops, then there is the Death Adder, Taipan, Copperhead. I think they are all worse that the Red Belly.
There is one snake though which is not deadly to humans because I think it is either too small or does not inject enough toxins. It kills rodents and other small stuff. The venom is supposed to be able to stop a heartbeat in a matter of seconds.

I’m not jealous but I am cold!

Makes you wonder what other species we don’t know about that are out there that would give us the creeps.
Most foreigners think Australia’s full of poisonous things, and it pretty much is.
We have I think 7 out of the top 10 deadliest snakes in the world and don’t forget sharks (Tiger, White Pointer, Mako, Hammerhead) , blue ringed octopus, box jelly fish, spiders etc etc
What a great country we live in eh!
Nuh just joking, wouldn’t live anywhere else.

You’d better be a quick runner as they can run at 10mph(about 13/14kmh). I know I can only sustain that speed for a few kilometres.
The funny thing is, is the whole camel spider thing was originally done as an April Fools Joke. It was said that they:
1.Can run at 40mph
2.Once someone is bitten their flesh starts decaying.
3. Make a sound like a screaming child when running away
4. Burrow into camels and eat them from the inside. The truth is they can run at 10mph, don’t bite humans or camels, they eat insects and make no sound.
But they are pretty damn scarry anyway!

Its actually called a camel spider, it has 10 legs and the picture is of two spiders.
They are very common in Iraq and in parts of the US (albeit smaller).

Take at look at my latest thread in FF. BTW, I know what you mean about Melb and 4 season in one day. I was in Melbourne ffor a Xmas party a few years ago and it was 8 degrees and raining/windy in the middle of December. It didn’t help that it was 26 in Sydney when I left, wearing shorts/t-shirt and Ansett lost my luggage for a day. I was walking around Crown, trying to get warm!!!
Steph, Kalbarri is nice. I spent some time further north around Carnarvon. My folks have retired over in WA and spend their time between their farm in Harvey and their townhouse in Sth Perth.

Just gone for a short while and 2 replies goes to 11. You guys must be bored!
I haven’t been to Gerldton but been passed it a few times on the way north. I will be in WA early May to see my folks. Looking forward to that, I haven’t been there for just over 12 months.
In terms of getting your posts up, this is the place to do it, just ask Chan.
He went from 450 – 2000 in just a number of weeks by posting here. He had fun doing it though.
Like your jokes George, they are good for a laugh!

Welcome to Forum Frolic Steph.
This used to be the fun place where we generally had conversations about nothing.
Lately it has been really boring because Chan can’t access it from work. He was 50% of FF at one stage. SiS and Guru are O/S and no idea where Westan, Muppet, Kay, Mattp, Pinky, et al are.

I agree with you. I have made my point before that I am for a diverse portfolio. This includes both -ve, neutral and +ve CF properties. I am in it for the long haul as I don’t see a quick fix with +ve CF. I would need 100+ to get a decent income so my wife and I wouldn’t have to work. Quick fix – I don’t think so!

Sorry Bec, which respected and trusted TV program would that be:
Today Tonight – chequebook journalism, never let the facts get in the way of a good story
OR
Media Watch – a known tall poppy lopper.
Media Watch is hardly unbiased and should be on a commercial chanel as it is no different to TT or ACA. It twists words into whatever it wants them to say.
From SMH, Jan 17th 2003:
‘Importantly, the judge found that Media Watch itself had been unfair, “because it did not acknowledge the evident diligence and trouble which the 60 Minutes team had gone to procure historic footage, to visit and interview ‘talent’ and to visit and film sites illustrative of the massacre. This effort made it Richard Carleton’s story (and, hence, that of 60 Minutes), not a BBC or CBS story.”
Essentially, the judge thought that if anyone was guilty of “lazy journalism” it was Media Watch because it had not thoroughly checked the facts before attacking Carleton rather too excitedly.’
Yup I trust what they say!

Thanks Andrew.
Hey, $7 grand is $7 grand for me too. Don’t get me wrong, I would love that for a weeks work.
I thought it may have been a few months work but I guess a 1 week exit strategy is still an exit strategy isn’t it?[biggrin][biggrin]
And anyway it was an example so it could have even been a flip!

Exit strategy – buy a place with a set goal of how long to hold it…
I will give an example – don’t stone me…[blush2]
I buy a house for $80K – just say it rents for $160pw – Not too bad return…
I might hold it until the value reaches $100K, then I sell it, and with the $20K profit and my initial funds in the deal, use that to buy 2 cheaper houses, then start all over again. To us, there is now no such thing as passive in real estate.
Hope that makes some sort of sense.

I might be reaching for a boulder here [biggrin]so tell me if that is the case.
I know it was an example of yours but I would be interested in your opinion if you think that would be a worthwhile deal?
If you bought at $80K and sold at $100K, wouldn’t the stamp duty on entry, loan fees etc mean that you paid closer to $84,000 and when you sold for $100K, have to take out agents fees and CG tax.
I figure you wouldn’t be left with $20K more like $7K or $8K.
Do you go through all the pain for a $7K or $8K return? I am not saying you necesarily do that but am just interested in your thoughts.[biggrin]
