This isn’t about the age old debate of which code is better… low rugby league crowds… insignificant AFL exposure internationally blah blah blah. I can do that one if you want, but it’s a bit tired and I can’t really afford to do it on my bosses time!

Culturally, Melbourne is the antipodean equivalent of the United States. To a Victorian, if it doesn’t happen in Melbourne then it never happened.

There. Take that up your Yarra.[;)]

    Westan,

I hope you’ve been to Balclutha before! It’s a nice place, but like much of the southern south island – very sleepy!

Someone please give the Victorians something else to talk about! On another thread, someone claims they don’t know what the Bledisloe Cup is!

I guess it also depends on what extra services / developments they’re putting in over and above last year’s services. The inflation argument assumes that they are maintaining the status quo.

I have similar-ish quandry. Large % capital gain in last 12 months in an area that hasn’t seen much of that in the past – and may not in future. Do you bank it and run or not?

In your case, I would seriously consider taking the money and running as it is costing you serious money. This is on two conditions:
    a) your research suggests that the capital gain has run its race for now;
    b) you’ve held it for 12 months.

In my case I’m going to hold for a while only because it’s not costing me anything.

Not certain, but I certainly have been told the same thing from real estate agents.

It’s one of Carl Scully’s proposals. Agree with PeterW that it’s probably a bit of an attempt to make the federal government look like they’re not doing all they could.

Wouldn’t it just push prices up by the $20,000 cap (or whatever it is), though? Not really helping, if so.

Comdom – as robertv says, I’m not sure how you lose out. At the end of the month (or year) you’re still only paying 8% of the total rent.

Congrats! I’m psyching myself up for #3 just before Christmas. I came home yesdy to find my wife mowing the lawn on the grounds that physical work might bring on labour…

Lynchy – see the “M” on your keyboard. Now, move two keys to the right… there. See what happens when you press it? That’s how you break up a sentence.[;)]

OK – so the raionale is not so much that there is a strong direct cause and effect link but that the symptoms are the same.

Yes, but what price education?![:D] (You’d have used that line, too, surely?!) (No, I don’t work for the mob running that course).

Naive question time: Unless there are a whole lot of UK investors here, why would it directly correlate that a bust in the UK = bust in AUS.

    S.I.S

I, too, use Finsoft as a double check against my own spreadsheets. It is fine for this purpose, but remember that Destiny are big on the depreciation angle to make it work.

But as a package, it’s simple enough to use.
