Hi Stuart…
We at channel 9 would get shot if we spelt Eddie’s name Maguire… when it’s McGuire… just so you know in case you were to ever send him a letter… he doesn’t reply if it’s misspelt…
When I was studying journalism at RMIT years ago and Ed was a journo at Channel 10 I used him as a mentor, helping out with advice on assignments etc… have checked with him and Tony Jones (sports presenter) whenever I’ve wanted advice, and they’ve given it to me, and while my goals and career aims have changed over the years, the advice from those in the know has helped immeasurably…
Ed’s a good bloke… I was in Ireland with him for the international rules series matches last year… good fella to talk to, and very interesting, especially when he lets you pick his brain!

hi ms elvis,
I find local government websites are helpful, have a look under their economic development sections… also check out state government sites, and keep an ear/eye on the media in the area you’re looking at… if anything big is or is not going to happen you’ll find out there. the asx website is also handy because big companies make announcements there.
cheers
rHi M,
I work every weekend, 52 weekends a year… hence the reason I’m looking for a move within the network to grab back some sort of a life!!
Had to watch 5 games of footy from Fri night to Sun arvo… start to finish! It’s just as well that I like footy…
Cheers
rps vluu… no email from you as yet… the offer’s still there…
if there’s one thing that september 11 and the iraq brought home it’s that the so-called ‘news’ is nothing more than a press-release sent out by whoever’s releasing it – OK let’s not go there –
Mini, as someone who works in a newsroom, you’re spot on and it’s a continual source of frustration!
rHello there…
have a hunt on realestate.com.au
property.com.au
domain.com.auyou can search by regions… if you devote some time to researching, you’ll find there’s still some properties that offer what you are looking for…
r
well I think on the back of ACA’s “rah rah reno kings isn’t this all nice” series on property investing recently, a story covering the dodgy side of PI might cast a more balanced light on the area as a whole.
rsend me an email at [email protected] , spelling out exactly what has happened…
I work at Channel 9 and will forward the email to my friends in A Current Affair (only if you want me to).
Don’t know if it will help but you never know… it’s worked in the past.
Cheers
rhi mini,
i write it and read it… occasionally they let me go on screen, but not too much, don’t want to scare the kiddies…
micallef is done downstairs…
cheers
rI’ll be at work, like every weekend, but that’s the price of being a sports journo… actually, I’m at work now… started at 9am, will be here until 11.30pm…
In fact, if you want to watch a beautifully written, incisive, and comprehensive report on the West Coast Eagles v Hawthorn game, tune into Nightline on Channel 9 (tonight, ie Friday)… across the nation!!
Cheers
RI bought in my own name, wish I had a trust structure in place now that I know more about them… am looking to get one set up shortly so future purchases will be through it.
r
Howdy,
I’ve actually got exactly the same set up as Del already… I was just curious after reading the Jan Somers book…
Cheers
RHowdy,
I sort of started in this PI area the wrong way around (with the benefit of hindsight)…
Bought 1st PPOR in Jan 2000 for 226k.
Bought 1st IP in Feb 2001 for 170k.Sold 1st PPOR in May 2002 for $340k
Bought 2nd PPOR in May 2002 for $250k (now worth $320+)1st IP now worth $370+ (on Mornington Peninsula)
Stumbled across this site when weighing up different PI strategies, and decided cashflow positive is the way to go.
Bought 4 properties in central Qld, average return 9.5%…
Just waiting to get them tenanted before I buy again… will keep chasing high yields, but only after researching everything to the nth degree…
So, I’d say my strategy from here on in will continue to be buy and hold… I’ve got a few areas pin-pointed, but it’s just a matter of patience… I’m of the belief (similar to heaps of people here) that opportunities will keep presenting themselves in any sort of market… it’s just a matter being patient, patient, patient…
Cheers
RBruce,
I don’t know whether you are the real deal or not, and I’m not going to gratuitously insult you, but surely if someone, especially an elderly lady, breaks down in your cab, you can take time out to give her some solace, instead of taking this attitude:
“Being too busy I almost threw her out of the cab.I had other jobs waiting.”I know you’re a lot older than I am, and I have no doubt you have a lot more life experience, but I hope when I get to your age, I am not so wound up in my own day to day life that I can’t stop for a second and help someone out if they need assistance. That is not meant to sound pious, even though it might come across that way.
As for travel becoming boring, well, I guess it depends on what you are looking to get out of it and how open your mind is…
In regards to your last line on advocating suicide, well, I don’t know if you’re trying to be funny or not, so I won’t comment.

aussierogue, I’m sure society can do without one less journo… heh heh
seriously though… the key thing in my post was “work for someone else”… I’d like the freedom to do my own thing… be it a bit of farming, running my own business, writing movies or books… something like that…
r
Hi,
I don’t aspire to drive ferraris, live in huge mansions or anything like that… I would just like to be able to have FREEDOM, in that if I don’t need to work for someone else, it would be nice if I didn’t have to.
I would also like to create some wealth to pass on to my kids and their kids, so they all get off to a good start.
That’s not to say I wouldn’t mind some creature comforts, because I would ie a big screen tv, a trail bike to zoom around the farm on and a decent holiday each year… but that’s about it.
Cheers
RLeigh,
I work at Channel 9 as a journalist/producer… have been in the media for 10 years… I’ve been tossing around some ideas for some sort of reality show based on real estate investing… if you’re fair dinkum, feel free to ask some questions on production processes… anyway, whack [email protected] into your address book for future reference… it might come in handy, you never now.
cheers
rso you run a business but you don’t pay taxes? on anything? good to see you’re a fantastic contributor to society… society has to have taxes… it’s an unfortunate fact of life mate.
I’ll leave it there…
Ryep fair enough David, taken on board… for what it’s worth I also believe in the theory “what goes around comes around”…
“self preservation and fear” – mate I think that is an apt description of many of the people I work with in the media… heh heh
have a good one
rG’day David,
Just curious to know why you think it is “unfortunate” that the “majority” of people don’t reveal where they are buying. My question to you is A: Why should they if they don’t want to? and B: Why criticise if they don’t?
I’ve been happy to help out with Rockhampton since I bought there recently, but I didn’t say too much about it until I had the deals stitched up.
I am just wondering why you think it would be a great thing for people to be saying “I’m buying in (insert name) now”… as I’ve said in another post, I have found all this PI biz to be much more fulfilling and interesting when I’ve done the research myself and discovered regions on my own. As you well know, there are a lot of people who seek easy answers and shortcuts, and they are worse off in the long run… at least that’s what I reckon!
Cheers mate, have a good one…
Rhaving slept on my response to bruce, I’d like to add that my mum, in a regional area, was left single by the death of my dad, who passed away aged 26… she brought up 3 kids… one is now an airline pilot, one is a television journalist, one is a police officer. gee mum, couldn’t you have done better? (Sorry to sound self-righteous, but I’m proud of my mum, and don’t like what bruce had to say)
