A place I have owned for a few years has an extra title at the back which is very small and in a triangular shape with big trees growing on it.
A few years ago I talked to the council about putting a granny flat in and got the big NO.
I am wondering if I could overcome regulations with something trasportable rather than permanent.
Where would I look for granny flats etc in Victoria?
There is now strong demand in the area and could probably ask 100 a week. Thoughts…

Thanks Celivia You are right it is very slippery and dangerous when wet and its green moss too.
I tried spraying a small section of the roof with roundup to kill the moss first but it didn’t kill it and in fact I think it is growing better than it was…
Water is not a problem here
I like using pressure cleaners as I can see quick results for my efforts, A satisfaction thing. Not like painting. I could never be a painter…Urggg.
What sort of pressure cleaner do you have ?

I sold a house direct to a nearby hospital and the conveyancing fees were no more that normal.
However our solicitor does ok out of us overall.
Ask your solicitor for a written costing.
I was audited some years ago by the ato and thankfully there were no problems. Can thank my conservative old accontant for that. The thing that sticks in my mind is the look he gave me after the auditor had finished… Yep that stressed and haunted look… Actually he died only a few years after that.

Hello Don
Welcome to the forum and good on you with the propertys.
Would love to hear your story about property in Moscow. Can you access your equity there with a local bank or institution ? Would you buy more property there ?
Good luck
Good post Life X .
I have a tendency to spend too much time with my work and finance and not enough time with the family . Getting the balance right I always find is a struggle.
I often think of what Kiyosaki wrote in one of his books ( forget which one) that people who work ALL the time are really lazy as they are neglecting everyone and everything else .
Yes balance is the key.

Hello John
Just read your story. Congratulations on the properties. Well done.

A: I consider a block width of around 100 metres to be nice, with around 2 – 5 acres in size on the fringes of suburbia.
Q: Would you consider investing in eastern European countries even if you did not speak the language ?
A: Ask them if they have time for a game of cards and a light beer. Then after , say , half an hour , ask them what they did with their money during the depression? If that doesn’t work then try other angles and drinks! Avoid being too intense. Usually it will come out eventually….
Q: What do you think of buying run down dairy farms in south west Victoria then cleaning up the mess and management then leasing them to tenant farmers as a strategy ?
Recently in the age I read that the fastest growing age group in America is the over 100’s.
More and more people are living to be 100.With the advancement in medical science in recent times would it be unreasonable to believe that people may one day not die? Just have a reno every few years [angel]
How would that effect the average Joe’s pension plans? [bawl]
Arh well , There is always the silver bullet [axe]

I think the Boks are going to be hard to get past the way they are playing with their rush defense.
Hey Westan, You need to get back to some fabulous Victorian weather!

I know an old guy called Neil low and oddly enough he has a great deal of trouble with his knees……..
You have to wonder what his folks were thinking of then

Have a small 10 by 5 trailer but don’t use it a lot. The wife is no good at backing and our ute serves most purposes.
Oh , that reminds me , I must get the quad serviced, after a clean up! They are overpriced these things for what they are and how long they last. And chew through the juice too eh?
Shawn
NO. I would not call a plummer for changing a washer . If you jump for that then what will it be next ? Lightbulbs ?
I reckon , as you say , fix it themselves or live with it.
Don’t become a yes person for tenants too quickly , unless there are special reasons.
Once I had a case where tenants were getting electric shocks off the Taps! It turned out to be a faulty earth which was easily fixed. Imagine the consequences of that.

I think I asked this question a year or so ago as I had read that guru, Dolf Dee Roo’s had been buying there. Also have read that huge opportunities were opening up there .
Not much help sorry . Hav you been there ?
Remember the weightlifters at the olympics ?Shawn
This thread brings back memories of my first car. A 78 Datsun 120y , you know,in the orange. Bought it in 83 when I was still in high school. Cost 7k and I had 6k of my own to throw at it and my folks loaned me the balance which seemed to take forever to pay back.
The only trouble was it wouldn’t stay on the road very well and it wasn’t too roomy in the back!
Those were the days.
Oddly enough , I could go in now and buy almost any car I wanted and the wife knows it to. We could have lots of things , but , there’s no desire for them.
Just happy to plug away at what makes us happy in doing business and investing in realestate.
I find it amazing the number of young people that want to get into investing but have a car loan.
I suppose if I had a dream vehicle it would be an F100 with a tray back and a good roo bar on the front. Oh …and it must have have air( a good heater)
My son could learn how to drive in it…..

Well, what an interesting topic. Things are not always as they seem eh.
We have a 93 model magna as our main car with 270 clicks on the clock. Have had very little trouble with it in spite of what people say about magnas.
Also we have an 86 model Nissan tray back ute in a diesal. Just got our diesal rebate back as we are primary producers. Claim it about twice a year.
Have you also noticed that the car thing is reflected in other areas of peoples spending.
Especially clothing. I know some very wealthy people and you would be surprised how ordinary they dress. I guess its because its just not important to them how they look.Shawn
I also enjoyed the newsletter.
I have just finished reading the second book and if you could not be inspired by the mappers then nothing will inspire you I say.
I can relate well to Wil and Del , but BTW , Don’t see them on the forum any more?
How some of the mappers got started with no money is a wakeup call to those of us with money.
Keep up the good newsletters.

Good on you for having saved 10k.
I would not put this in a ‘white bread investment, (managed fund)
Save up a bit more and check out a couple of mortgage brokers to see what you could do.
I’m with dazz on the move out of home thing. I had flown the coup when I was 18 and have no regrets. BTW , what do you do if mum comes home unexpectedly when the girlfriends around?????
Jump out the window?Good luck and keep up the saving habit.

I reckon one of the best learning things for kids is plain old monopoly. In our house (when dads not too tired)I think I get the biggest kick out of it. My kids are 10 , 8 & 6. Just seeing them get a buzz from it and watching their personality ……….. And hopefully no tantrums!!!!!
