Now dont be like that Derek. I didnt mean to shake your tree.
I just mean i dont want to be complacent and take the easy road, own 1 house and retire on the govt pension (if its still availabe when i hit 65).
I know i want, to be in control of my future, learn the skills needed to direct and shape my own portfolio. I’m doing ok i guess so far, i mean, i could be doing a lot worse.
Thanks heaps for all the probing and thought provoking Q’s, but its opinions im after.
C’mon Guys and girls, surely Derek isnt the only one sitting in front of their comp, reading investment threads. Talk to me.
Or is it just me and u, D?
Derek
Im selling my house cause i dont want it anymore. Its a purpose built duplex with 7 bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 4 bathrooms, 4 living areas, 2 outdoor entertainment areas, 4 car accom, 200m bitumen driveway, perched atop a purdy hill, on 5 acres 30min from Brisbane. My inlaws rent half off me.
Im sick of living with them.
So im moving.
I know what i want. Got the time frames all worked out. I know what my partner wants, i know what what i can borrow, (and im 27yo). I do appreciate the questions, but they dont really give me any new direction. Already been through all that.
Please, just some other peoples thoughts and opinions are all thats needed. I promise i wont hold you to anything. Just, what would you do?
40+ people have read this thread, surely someone has a opinion running through their head. And that rhymes.

Hi,
Just agreeing with the other reply’s, most of the suburbs could be around 30-50min from the city centre, but this is depending on the traffic.
The north side of the city is quieter and in my opinion greener, but there is less in the way of commercial and industrial growth. Also less new residential developments. This relates to a quieter, leafier feel to most of the suburbs. i am in Samford, and I can be in the city centre, off peak, in 25min, and 50 min peak. I live on 6 acres and its very quiet. Other N/S areas in that price bracket could include Mitchelton, Ferny Hills and The Gap.
The southside is growing rapidly, with the distance between the outer city suburbs and the Gold Coast getting smaller every year. Some south side suburbs, quite a distance from the city, can reach prices very close to city prices.
The east side is towards the coast, and because of the limited growth available, prices are growing rapidly. Older areas coming into fashion again see prices rise.
Probably the best way is to fly up for the weekend and drive around. Flights are cheap. Help get a feel for the area.
Hope this was of help.
Phil
Thanks to all that have posted reply’s![thumbsupanim]
Your thoughts, along with the animated debate have gone a long way to helping the decisions. The baby is the incentive to get off our butts, and push the comfort zone out a bit further. My wife will be devoting what time she has to sourcing +CF residential deals.
I notice no hot tips[jealous] or thoughts about mid north QLD. Probably dont want any more competition[wink2]
Thanks all!! Expect plenty more questions and updates.

Michael,
sorry if this is obvious to anyone out there…. But how do you flip a property? (find a willing buyer?) I’ve read the book + others, and still can’t figure how someone would pay more than you did originaly. And you got double? Must be a trick to it! Feel like sharing?
