For the same reason, as a tax payer, I have to pay for people who CHOOSE to smoke, or drink or gamble, or tell their bosses where to go and get sacked!!!!
Plain and simple; because not everyone has the same opportunities I have, the sick, the elderly, the disabled…..what do we do about them??? I don’t object to paying a little extra tax for these people, I DO OBJECT to paying heavily for tax-funded holidays for fat cat politicians!!!
Fair enough???
Hey chill eveyone [wacko]
What happened to answering diclem’s original question????!!!! [blink]
[offtopic] This is not a debate about single mothers, multiple fathered children or whatever…..it’s about how people plan to spend the $600 per child granted to them by a government who is IMO trying to give back to some very deserving families!!! For those of you who feel that these families don’t deserve the bonus, what do you suggest to be more deserving, your hard earned tax dollars going to pay for an office refurbishment or an extravagant luncheon for one of our beloved politicians????!! Not this little black duck…..I’m more than happy to pay my tax dollar if I think it will benefit a child, and if I thought more could go towards the kiddies well-being then I’d gladly pay double or triple that again!!!!
Sue, I have two children, a boy aged 22 and a girl aged 11 and my ONLY regret is that I didn’t have more of them….I love kids!!!
And I love maccas; [thumbsupanim]
And I treat my whole family to maccas, kfc, hungry jacks or pizza hut etc etc at least once a month!!! [whistle]
Motherhood is both a challenging and rewarding occupation, and I commend ALL MOTHERS out there….you are ALL LEGENDS in my books [medieval] and as far as I’m concerned $600 doesn’t even come close to being enough, but if it helps even a little bit; BONUS!!!!
Cheers, [tongue]

TIP
When IP hunting, if you can put up with it, try and inspect the building during cold, rainy or windy (winter) months; there is usually less competition (other buyers) around and it can really help identify any problem areas in the IP such as insulation issues, a leaking roof, gaping cracks, damp and/or draft spots etc.

Jo
Good one Jaffasoft!!! [laugh4]
He was either the new Messiah, or a terrorist; either way you should have gotten his autograph!!!! [lmao]

Hi Marisa,
I have seen a business magazine mentioned lately, I think it may have been BRW (Business Review Weekly) but I have read in here several times, mention of a magazine which I too subscribe to, and that is API – Australian Property Investors magazine; that’s the one Stuart Wemyss writes in (it’s a great read, very informative and worth the money).
Cheers,
Jo

Hi Redwing,
All our IPs are at 5% PM fees + GST, with one week’s rent when re-letting, and that’s it, aside from a $2 per statement charge each month.
Oh nearly forgot, I’m in Melbourne.
Cheers,
Jo

Don’t want to nit pick but the relevant date for CGT calculation is not the date of ownership (i.e possession or settlement date) but actually the unconditional Contract date.
Oops sorry…..I didn’t realise that I hadn’t made it clear enough, I have gone back in and edited it accordingly. Thanks for picking me up on it Richard.

Jo

Hi SD,
Yes it is a kind of fan shape, narrower down the back (almost to a point). I need to take a closer look, and will try to do so over the weekend sometime. Thanks again for your input.

Any clues on pergola, wonder what price range I would be looking at?

Hi Marisa,
Your question is a toughie…..it is so difficult to say, it can be as cheap or as extravagant as your budget will allow. If you want to go really really cheap, try some of your larger hardware stores, they have those free-standing carport/pergola canvass-type things (not necessarily the most attractive, but I have seen them used as outdoor extertainment shelter, and I think they retail for about $300 (????). Personally, I had a gazebo built in my backyard last year, and I got the guy to use re-cycled timber (the greenie in me!!!) and it cost me about 6K…looks awesome, and didn’t need any council permits as it isn’t attached to the house at all. Everyone comments on it, especially the decking!!!
Cheers, and keep us posted! [winking]

Hi Marisa, Brahms and Sizzling_duck,
Thank you all for your comments.
SD, yes you can always re-arrange the (garden) furniture (i.e. shed) to give the appearance of a different shape. I believe mirrors are a good option to!!
Brahm, I saw something on telly about that!! Very interesting venture!!
Marisa, Yes my concern is more the “resale” issue down the track. Although I very much a “buy and hold, and hold, and hold” [laugh4] property investor, it is always comforting to know that I can get the best possible price (and that the land shape won’t dampen this).
Cheers,
JO
Thanks everyone!
You’ve been very helpful; and yes 1wesley I will look into the easement issue; thanks for the tip! [thumbsupanim]
Yack, you know I think you’re a legend!!! [thumbsupanim]

Amen!!! [angel] But sadly, this is not always the case. My stance is simplier; I treat people the way I would like to be treated; I hold no great expectations of them; therefore minimise the chances of disappointment. I return common courtesies and trust(hope) that they do likewise……but when it is not forthcoming, I take this as an instinctual warning and retreat to safer groundHonesty and transparency never made people poor.
True, but it does make them vulnerable to those of lesser virtue. Thanks Kay,
I’m glad to see you (or anyone else) didn’t think my comment was not anti-maccas or that I was picking on anyone who goes there. I love the stuff too, although with their yummy salads now, I don’t feel so guilty (not that I need to, but better safe than sorry I always say)
As you can see (members pic) my hubby WAS overweight at one point (certainly not obese) but healthy food and lots of out-and-about in that (clean???) air works wonders!!!
Cheers,
Jo
