    hi wayne ,
as a high percentage of houses have asbestos in them quotes can vary from $8000 to to around $15000.
people who charge anyless u will find are uninsured and unlicensed. As public liabilty is on average around 100 a week most demolishers have quite high overheads thats why the price is higher. As for getting salvagers who rumage through your building for scrap for free i would highly advise anyone to reconsider!
minimum requirements to demolish a house is there has to be atleast 1 demolition supervisor on site!
u need hoardings and signage which complies with AS 1725 and 1319
also demolishers comply with AS 2601 -2001
which is the code of practise for demolition works.
so unless they specialise in demolition and asbestos removal i would avoid them!!
they might do the job cheaper but consider this…
who is going to be responsible for insurances??
    asbestos??
    signage?
    fences?
    epa report?
    tip fees?
