Hi guys,
have been OS for a couple of weeks on biz, and haven’t had time to keep tabs on the proposed Sydney meeting at Five Dock. I heard there were to many people and it was a struggle to find a venue. Whats the latest – is there one scheduled?
Hi all,
I’m in the Wireless internet biz, so know a little bit about broadband (BB) and the internet.
Like Mel, I use Zone Alarm as a Firewall at home. Anyone on Broadband should have some form of Firewall protection, as with BB, your computer is “always on” the internet, and hackers can access your computer. You can get Zone Alarm for free from CNET, along with a ton of other free software http://www.download.com/?tag=cnetfd.sb
Department: Home / Computer Hardware / Networking Products
I use a Netgear Wireless Router to connect me to the internet. The Optus BB cable comes in to the house, to the Netgear Router, a Cable goes to the Home PC, and I log on to the internet via a Wireless card in my Laptop from anywhere around the house, with no cables. If you are using a Laptop, Wireless internet access is cheap and very effective. Not complicated at all. Dead easy to install, plus I can surf the net and check emails at many coffee shops during the day.
And I know you have already selected Telstra Bear, but they have the most down times of all the BB suppliers. In November, Telstra had to pay rebates to 000’s of customers who were offline for over a week. Optus, Pacific Internet and iPrimus are the top 3 BB providers, ranked by Uptime, (ie minimal downtime) and speed of access. Ihug – http://www.ihug.com.au/ have also got a really good Statellite BB service as well.
Hi guys,
I”m from Dunedin, living in Sydney and just finished “The Book” (0-130 Properties) today, logged on first time tonight, just offloaded 1 of our 3 negatively Sydney properties,(prob sell the other 2 shortly) and am also looking at buying in NZ.
I lived on Somme Parade in Wanganui 20 years ago, (1 mile from Mongrel Mob HQ….) and was considering Wanganui and Dunedin for my first NZ purchases.
My mother is over here from Dunedin for holidays, and we have spent a lot of time disussing Positive Gearing opportunities in Dunedin, as I have been reading The Book, and quoting to her a lot from it
Have to say, I think we may of missed the boat looking for ‘deals’ in Dunedin. Mums 2 Bedroom house in the middle of Dunedin (Opposite Olveston for anyone who has been there) has gone from NZ$147k last January to $245k in December. (she had it valued, thinking of selling) Looks like there are lots of Aucklanders buying up rental properties looking at the Scarfie (local nickname for Students, as they always seem to wear scarves…..) market for tenants.
Also the Otago Polytechnic (NZ’s TAFE) has just completed a major apartment block building on Anzac Ave, right near the University, with each Apartment having 5 Bedrooms. ie – Custom designed for the Scarfies, so they can share costs.
I to think Lincoln, and maybe around Christchurch might be the place to look.
Hi guys,
we are in Sydney, and are (were) part of the 92%er’s as we had 3 Negative geared properties, until we sold 1 last month!! And we will probably sell another next month, having just read 0-130 Properties in 3.5 years. The lights have been turned on []!!!!!
We would like to attend the meeting later this month, and are looking forward to comparing notes/war stories as this is a very interesting time in the property market.
Also – if anyone can help us figure out which regional towns around NSW are worth looking at, we would greatly appreciate it, as I’m a Kiwi and Debs a Canadian, so not a lot of local knowledge at our place.
