As flexible as my employer is (and it would be the most flexible employer I know (well apart from myself)) they have already knocked back a colleague moving to WA as the travel expenses to come back regularly to manage the team are beyond what they want to pay. Place on top of that a joint-parenting situation where my children spend alternate weeks with me and there you have the reason why I live in Sydney and in this particular area … we all have our reasons. I love WA. I drove there last year and did not want to come back from Pingaloo Reef. Wish it wasn’t so hot in summer though![biggrin]

Hands thread back to tommo and apologises for the hijacking.

It was aimed at mums and dads, who did not have the wherewithal to make it work. Steve’s book made one believe that it was as easy and was sold under that pretext, and even he could not make it work with those he claimed could achieve the same results he did. That’s what’s wrong.

I am not sure if you are here because you read the book and now feel that something may be wrong with the claims made on TT.

I am here directly through accidently seeing the program while waiting for a segment on an acquaintence’s disabled child (yes TT will grab at anything for a good story). I did not get the impression then, nor after reading the book that it is “easy”. Nor that they would be millionaires. Nor that the whole thing had finished and there has been proof positive that people don’t control $1 million in property.

I am sure though that those that are still serious about persuing the goal will be working to achieve them and will be the inspiration for the rest of us here that are also trying to head in that direction.

If I learned one thing from the book (which I think the MAP has breached) and that was to set my OWN goal. It is all up to me to use the knowledge I gain from these forums and the book and make it work for my situation. Whatever they (the MAPers) gain from this opportunity will be a heck of a lot more than if they did nothing at all.

Gough Whiltlam actually said “maintain the rage and enthusiasm”, but the people did neither, as will happen with this issue.

I understand people taking change to the tax rules badly. I wonder ,though, why so much energy is placed into railing against what is (to be) a fact. I have found that if I am saying things like “Should be’s” and “it’s not fair” then I am not dealing with the reality of the situation, I am just back in that fairy tale world where I am the princess and everyone is supposed to worship me.

OK so it’s a bit of a poo that the rules have changed. But it will settle down and people will work with it. Why do people specifically want to invest in NSW? Why wouldn’t the government see that as an opportunity to make more revenue? After all they have to pay out more in NSW for the population levels than other states anyway.

Looking at the advice I have learned here, portfolios should be diverse. Maybe for those people that buy strictly in NSW it’s time to diversify a little more.

Thanks for the reply, had to ask (now I won’t die wondering)

The prices in this area would make repayments in the 800-1k a week range which is a leeeeeeeeeeeetle out of my price bracket.

Hills district hey? I have to live in the Hills District and would rather not be renting.[blush2] Not thinking of wrapping it are you? Selling cause the house is too small or just to get closer to Sydney?

I don’t know. There is enough working class upbringing in me to distrust the glitz and glamour of someone selling something. He (Rick Otton) seemed uncomfortable about adopting the trappings of wealth at the beginning, and fed up with the seminar scene at the end. But isn’t a “lucrative hobby” (as he described his wrapping business) still preferable to a stressful cash-cow that the seminar business was portrayed ?….each to their own I guess.

Thanks Geo…I am lucky that my second job happens to be one of the best jobs in the world (Computer Game Reviewer) and writing a catchy headline is almost a hobby now.

Start, I appreciate the recommendation and will look for it at my library this week.

Sort of off topic, I was told by a friend that many of the Rich Dad titles (and other “guru’s” publications) could be found in the peer to peer networks (like kazaa) in both ebook and spoken form. I think looking there would mess up my karma ao you won’t catch me looking there. [glum2]

Thanks Elves for your encouraging reply [biggrin].

I have enthusiasm in bucketloads and I really know where I want to go…I mean I can see the destination but not the road to get there (which is where the fear of sharks comes in).

I guess if practical suggestions are scarce in these forums I need to find a source for stories that involve people like me and see what they did. (I checked the stories around the site and most are people who did the Australian dream and used the equity from their PPOR to start off, something that I am not able to do). Library extensions time.[mellow]

There has to be something out there that someone like me can get a toehold in?!

I wonder if getting out will take her to a hotel room where they leave chocolates on the pillow for their customers, or to restaurants who provide after dinner mints gratis. Plenty of examples of chocolate giving in a professional manner.

Geez Pisces, you had me worried there. Couldn’t work out if you were genuine in believing what may have been sent to you or you were scamming us all [biggrin]

Still if you want to spread some of the real estate knowledge [wink]

It certainly not the same as I read yesterday. I thought there was a mention of spruiker # 5 being afraid of being found out and asking for help in how to explain it (and although I don’t remember the actual word “lying” that was the impression I got). Now I have gone back it won’t be in my temporary internet files, maybe someone who was there before but hasn’t gone back can find it in theirs?

I am still not sure what your post means. The article about the Tasmanian Tiger is clearly an April Fools Day joke. The pledging of funds using the article as a basis of fact is a weird way of raising money and one I won’t be participating in. I am still not sure if you are just having a bit of a joke or someone is scamming you (sorry but that’s how I see it).

As you have said a discovery like this would be the breakthrough of the century, one that would be widely reported and would take little research to confirm. There is no mention anywhere on the net or other press. Nothing.

Reading the article itself one can see it clearly ran out at midday

Sounds like you want to and that they are worthy in your eyes…so why not? It’s a long way to Christmas and the $20 odd you spend will probably buy 10x that in good will.

At Christmas I received a card in the mail from the Indian restaurant I occassionally get home delivery from. That $1 card (+ 50c postage) has made that restaurant about 3x as many orders from me than I would have.

I wish my landlord was the giving type [biggrin]

Not necessarily in over your head. I am currently paying about $1440 a month rent, saving $500 a month and also having 5% of my pretax pay buying shares in the company I work for and chucking in a small bit extra for super each year, yet I am sure the banks will have a cry at the fact that there is a spot on my credit rating incurred during my divorce when my ex defaulted on a credit card he was supposed to pay out….I would love for someone in my area to offer me vendor finance [biggrin]

Sometimes renting is unavoidable due to personal reasons. I have to live in this area so my children are close to their father (we share custody week on/week off) and they have a secure school life because of it as well. It means I pay $340 a week for a house that I would not be able to buy (I’s say minimum $450,000 value). Sure it means that a large % of my take home pay goes in rent but sometimes you have to live with what you have and make the best of it I guess.
Now if only I could get someone to suggest what would be the best thing to do with the $500 a month I can contribute to getting IPs having only 2k savings! [:p]

The netsky virus is currently doing the rounds in many guises. It spoofs (pretends to be) from various addresses it finds in infected people’s emails and hard drives. This may be from a virus email to someone else pretending to be you, that person no longer exists at that address or whaever, so you get the return email.Ensure your virus checkers definitions are up to date and never ever open any attachment you haven’t scanned first. Even if it’s from your mother….maybe PARTICULARLY if its from your mother.

    [:p]

edit addition: if you use outlook or outlook express or any form of microsoft windows operating system, make sure you using “update windows” regularily
