I don't drive I hitch hike. One day I was hitch hiking and a semi trailer loaded full of cars pulled up for me. I raced up to the cabin and the driver said, "I'm full in here but why don't you get into one of the cars on the trailer?" "Cool," I thought! Then we took off. Over the next two hours we pulled over and picked up seven more hitch hikers. "Cool," I thought. Now we all have our own cars! Then the truck driver went 110 km's an hour and we all got speeding fines!

Gats! Many thanks Richard and thinker. On what I have provided how much would I be able to borrow as a rough guide? I've cut back nearly all expenses and I'm living very 'spartan' to say the least. Due to the cost of selling then having to pay entry costs again at a later date (at tomorrow's prices) I would prefer to keep the two investment properties (unless interest rates go ridiculous and I'm forced to sell). I have no other personal debt (eg, car loan, Visa card, etc) and currently renting for virtually nothing. Think of Will Smith from 'The Pursuit of Happiness' and you'll probably get the picture! As an aside I do have some shares in 'Smart Meters' which is really too early to tell but may give me a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
Richard if you need any more stats please pm me or I can pm you if you need anymore details. Many thanks once more.

Gats! There does seem to be a lot of infrastructure being put in place in Surat. There are also a couple of natural resources being given the nod from the government (underground gas useage, etc). Also it appears to be becoming an agricultural mecca which should raise employment.

Gats! From my personal experience I'd give big Kev and his cronies a big miss with TIC. I had a property that I purchased only to be 'gazumped' by the very people involved in getting me the property. Let the buyer beware!

Gats! That's actually quite a valid point Keiko.

Hi Trev,
It's a good question and I've been out of the property game for several years. For someone starting out as a novice how would I find a property conveyancer if I was buying for the first time? Where would Iook to avoid getting trapped into a one shop package style deal with a developer (which happened to me once. Many thanks!

Gats!Hi Troy,
I sent you an email and registered last night to your newsletter. Am looking forward to the event.

Gats!I also have two investment properties and use separate property managers for both. They do a great job and I buy them a gift every Xmas or if a new tennant is found. They save me time more importantly and I'd shop around tomorrow if they performed poorly. I view them as, in a sense, part of the 'business' if that makes sense.
Cheers,
Gats!I put one in about a year ago (admittedly along with a couple of other improvements). This was when rents were starting to come on the rise. It added $100 a week more to the rent and effectively made the property cashflow positive (this was in addition to interest rates falling).

Gatsby!Hi hlewishlewis,
It upsets me to hear of your predicament. I wish I could jump on the bandwagon and offer proactive solutions to correct the injustice you have suffered at the hands of others. I truly belive and know that replies to follow will lead you to an outcome that hopefully satisfies your predicament, brought on by the hands of others. I apologize for my philosophical response which is the last thing you need at this point. Rest assured though, it will not ruin your life as you state, but may be a long haul to restore your financial loss. Stay the course through the correct channels and hopefully you will seek an outcome that will recover the incredible loss. Hopefully also, it may lead further to preventing this from happening to others. Again, I apologise if this seems as cold comfort. But please don’t make the same mistake I did when I made a huge loss (which at this time will seem insensitive) and that was with the Investor’s club. Sometimes it’s better to end a fight 10 punches too soon, than one punch too late. it’s sounds though that you are in a position for full recourse, if that is your goal.

Of the people who have freed up time in the pursuit of investing, I’m interested in how many are single and not in a relationship (where one person works and the other partner sources the deals) in using their freed up time to achieve their common goal?

Hi Brenda,
Great to see you back with your sage words and advice. Re: Broadband. Same problem here and have signed up also.

Dazz,
So that’s what they mean by being able to have ‘multiple posts?’ [exhappy] My g’friend and I are sharing the keyboard at the moment . She insists on pressing the ‘delete’ key while my preference is for the one above it.[inlove]

BRU,
When do I start? I admire your outspoken approach to free speech, etc, but it does border a tad towards fantasy. I mean, imagine if I did get the job?
‘Gatsby, keep working!’
‘But there’s nothing left to do?’
‘Well then you pretend like you’re working Gatsby!’
‘Yeah?, well you’re the boss. Why don’t you pretend like you’re working for me! I’ll pretend it’s 5pm and we can close and go home? How’s this for a fantasy, now I’m the boss and you’re fired? Knock yourself out (and people say it’s hard to get good help these days?)!

Dazz,
Roasted ‘sparrow’ (bones and all) in Cirali, Turkey wasn’t bad (mind you, you need at least a good half dozen to wet the appetite!).
This Xmas will be down at St Kilda with the homeless.
Cheers,
A very ‘skinny’ Gatsby!
PS. Good to be back in OZ!“Sometimes the hardest thing to do in life is often the best thing to do.”
Hi Dr.X,
Yes you guessed it, ‘Pakistan’! Hi Dazz! The only weights so far have been my backpack and people!I’m working at Prem Dam (The House for the Dying) under the Missionaries of Charity started by Mother Teresa. I’m a Nurse and when I started, one guy who is doing a fantastic job and running the place had me thinking he was the Doctor. When I asked him he just said, ‘No, I’ve just been here for 15 months’. There are 6 volunteers, 4 sisters and a doctor that visits once per week for 150 men with AIDS, Leprosy, TB, Cholera, etc. The sadest thing is that they are not dying from these conditions, but from ‘NEGLECT’! There are no painkillers, morphine, antibiotics, etc. Everyday I clean out and change maggot infected wound dressings with nothing more than betadine, tweezers and gauze dressing. One young guy who had a bed sore (everyone does) that ended up the size of a fist cavity in his buttock died the 3rd day I was there. I don’t want to start a debate, but I wish in hindsight I had chosen a NGO in Kolkata (there are heaps). My point being that with all the millions and millions of dollars donated (and I’ve done a fair bit of research), I look around at the third world conditions of Prem Dam and I keep asking ‘SHOW ME THE MONEY!’
Anyway that aside, it has been a very rewarding experience.

Hi Foundation,
I’m sitting in an internet cafe in Calcutta and today I couldn’t get a phone to work for the life of me!!! Maybe I should have asked if I could make a prank call to OZ?
“Oh, here sir try this one!”
“Gee, thanks!”
Then after I managed to call home I stepped outside and stepped in cow cuck! I could have killed that cow (if only I could find the one who did it!).
There was a bit of a scare last night too in New Delhi. I was having a drink at the Fairlawn Hotel and the guy I was raving to got a call and 3 bombs just went off there, killing about 100 people. One bomb hit Pahargang which is where I always stay and is a major hang out for Backpackers. Anyway, if I hear of any sus phone calls to Oz, I’ll be shore to get their no. There’s my rickshaw, gotta go!

Cheers Sime,
I’ll be in Calcutta for 2 weeks doing a bit of volunteering then off to Rajasthan and then Jaisalmer. I’ll keep everyone posted. There will definetly be some ‘real life’ jokes coming out of this trip (again!).
