    LOL Pisces

One, I am very picky with men, they leave the loo seat up! UG! No honestly that doesnt worry me at all.

I wasn’t even contemplating single or married aspects, more that if you have some spare and going…lol I’d be happy to take some off you.

As for your wife’s money, I heard the wife holds the purse strings…but you can say its for tax purposes [whistle]

My accountant says” if there is one thing I have learnt…you can’t argue with a woman!

Yeah did I read it somewhere that there is not stamp duty in NT?

Mind you I wonder why? is it all the govt employees up there, all those military personnel, coming and going on some pretty good wages (not that I would want to be sent overseas! but the pay is grand!)

    Rather transient, and very expensive.

    Hey Mista rephrase that!
What about retirees who are on benefits?
What about those that bought porperties in outback areas as holiday homes or even their own place, just to escape the rat race, only the rat race caught up, so the merit, and then pushed up the values.

I know a few in this position, and the value of their property is such they now have to sell, or were before.

As for grandma and grandpa, well hey I’m one too and I got a long way to go before I retire. Over 20 years before I see a pension, on second thoughts they wont have them then will they? LOL

I have learned that 24 hours can last indefinitely!

I learnt how to copy photos to a new program and straight to cd’s for my family. Been scanning old black and white (as the family historian) and have now organised it all, oh goodie, better save before the comp crashes.

I learnt that I can sleep past 6am
I am even learning to like NRL….oh did I say that?

And with each post on here by other members, I have learnt to scan quickly, to ignore a few, to consider the knowledge of others, even when I don’t agree, and to know we all come from different times, places and backgrounds. I still got a lot to learn.

I also learnt that weekends dont last forever! Boo hoo! Work tomorrow!

Hi there, well this topic comes up a fair bit so maybe to get some more info do a bit of a topic search too.

I can say my bank used a valuer that also came in well below when I was purchasing in SE QLD, however I got the real estate to give me market values later on and they had risen considerably, I am taling 50k in less than 6 months.

Well if they have dropped I dont care as I plan to hold for a while anyway.

But suffice to say I was not impressed with bank valuers price, my bank manager explained it was just a drive by, he sent me the copy (which most dont get from them even if it is part of the process) I questioned some of the info on it, got the real estate to give me their opinion as well. I got the loan anyway, but it pays to shop around.

you mean once they have run out of the bottom of the ladder incomes they may have to start to look at the top 10%? heheheh I doubt it.

I have some dockets from my parents business that dates back to 1970’s,. must have another look at what a loaf of bread cost, dad and I used to deliver it, wrapped in white papper, unsliced, best part was eating the middle out of a soft warm loaf of bread…never mind indigestion!

I recall a frozen yoghurt, orange actually, from the 4 square shop (most expensive) cost me 18 cents! I only got 20cents pocket money.

My mum sometimes gave us 10 cents ofr lunch at school, it bought me hot chips with vinegar from the local fish n chip shop in the arvo! running down katoomba street eating hot chips on a cold winters day…ahh YUM!

a can ok coke, which we were not allowed, better still a can of cottees lemon drink (like solo) was 15 cents now the average take away can is $1.50 and a few misley chips from $1.50 to 2.50, comparatively I dont think my wages went up like that!

    the gap widens…..

farms exist there. but then so will stamp duty…call me cynical.

    Thanks!

I know they factor in vacancy rate, but what if you have none, at least for three years…doesnt let you do less than 1 week.

    Cheers thanks!

Absolutely agree Steve. We were told GST would replace many hidden taxes as well but how many of you know the difference?

When I sold gifts in a store, ornaments were made out like salt and pepper shakers, this was then to avoid the added tax, in them days…it vaired according to what the product was and what it was to be used for. So if they put a hole in it top and bottom, guess what? I think you know.

I never wanted GST. I saw it in the USA and I saw it in the UK, and ours was going to be no different! Excpet for one thing, they didnt really work it out. The ppor staff in the tax office call centres had no idea whether this product oor that was GST’d, or exempt. The manual they had to read was worse than the Sydney yellow pages, the intensive training, why? because the idiotic politicians hadn’t thought it out.

So what percentage was it food and what wasn’t was it used for this or really was it cosmetic, I think you get the drift. So the investment scam is no longer the property moghuls out there we so fondly refer to….it is the likes of Carr and his cronies, or even the next set that comes along, This is not fair and it is not just.

    Cheers

The tax man is always looking at ways to increase the coffers on the pretense (my opinion) of whatever is topical at the time, be this health transport or something else. Trouble is despite NSW having a huge population and we being I beleive a very highly taxed state, the systems they say need the extra funding have been crying out for years. I want to know where all the money really goes.

Gee think back, smokes went up for the smokers, petrol and insurances, rego and the likes, not cheap…go to QDL and you find petrol some 10-20cents a litre cheaper why?

To say that the stamp duty will be added onto an investors property sale, and that for first home buyers will benefit is superficial, or maybe not, as there are fewer first home buyers than there are investors with properties…and while they have a right to get a home, if they want it, why is it those people are being treated differently than others? I rather think it discriminatory dont you?

So many people out there did not get assistance with their first home, and do not qualify, maybe timing, there may be many reasons why someone has no property, some choose not to own anyway but to rent. Why penalise those that wish to invest? They do support the economy in many many ways. Rather short sighted in my opinion of them to take this course of action.

Pisces: you state action, you mentioned politics, what are you doing? Is what I am thinking.
No it doesn’t need an answer it is rhetorical. As for keeping a European passport, why? is that your exit strategy? [biggrin]

AS for great depression, I admire those that did what they did, is what I was saying, though I have never been through one to comment personally.

But dont tell me that writing is a waste of time!

interesting read, thanks for the info.

I know there appears to be panic for tenants, but lets face it there is panic for those investors now faced with this tax. Just because people are investors does not necessarily mean they are rich or can afford it either.

Wait til we see big mean baddie landlord raised the rents….they forget big mean nasty money grabbing politician had an input….

I remembers years ago learing to find a rock the right size and shape and skim the surface of the water, I saw the rock or pebble hit, jump and bounce into the air, to repeat the process until finally it fell to the bottom depths…we had competitions to see who could get their pebble to go furtherest…

My father used to take us kids to fishing spots, watering holes and the likes, as a little ‘un I was intrigued by the water, so still, so clear, so reflective, until i placed my hand or fingers quickly in the pond….and the water displaced, a ring formed, a ripple sent the water outward away from me and it seemed to keep going. I wondered how this happened and why?

We hear news like taxes on a regular basis, someone puts their finger in the pie, someone has the control and someone casues the effect, and as the info sinks in and reaches each of us, the ripple continues….did the originator realise what was really happening? and the effect ir really would have? And how many pebbles are going to sink….

    interesting isn’t it?

Years ago, when there was service in a “service station” when the price of petrol was somewhat lower and in gallons, $2 was considered the normal amount to spend. $5 was somewhat like serving the rich and get a truck where they spent $50!!! wow …..the queues for petrol miles long, even days, odd days…..where you washed the forecourts daily with water and a brush and where no customer got out of their car, you took the money you took back the change. There was cash, credit cards? never herd of them.

When PMG had a contract for petrol with you, it almost guaranteed you a living.
When someone smoked as you filled up the car, the engine running, but there were no mobile phones.

The fumes of the petrol filled your nostrils and lungs, there was standard and super petrol, when oil came in half and quarts, in glass with pouring tops…..

ahh brings back memories of my childhood and teen years….maybe thats why it takes me longer to learn things, petrol fumes killed off the brain cells. There was never a fear of being set alight from someone smoking….people expected service and being waited on, and by golly they got it. Windows washed, petrol in, oil and tyres checked all for $2 worth of petrol.

FOr the record I only own my own home in NSW so the stamp duty does not affect me. But I am still willing to have a go.

Pisces have you never heard the saying? the pen is mightier than the sword? I suggest individual responses are far better because each one is a potential voter. By all means JOIN a group, but dont lose your individiality either! And dont be so slack that you leave others to do what you whinge about.

Does parliament call you? well get cracking Pisces

As for the great Depression, I wasnt born then, but the stories the old man up the road inparted, adn the neighbour a stocky, bushman told me endure. Walking miles and miles away from family just to find work, something to put food on the tables of your family.

Well this is no great depression, I wonder if in our lifetime we will ever be so ‘humbled’

Yes there will be winners, those that wait for the right time to buy, those that dont care about the stamp duty. Good luck to you, but there are people out there no different to me, trying to save it might be for their retirement, it might be because super was not available to them when they worked. It might be as a result of wanting to provide for their family, kids or grand children, dont begrudge anyone that opportunity or that right. Who are “you” to judge who is a real investor and who is not? SHAME shame shame!

there are opportunists and there are vultures that prey on the misfortunes of others…..

Pisces I quoted this too on another thread I think on the 6th, so my politician trading was my term for insider trading you mentioned this morning on your post. I agree, I think it is in the same vein and I think he is a hypocryt
