Yeah seems like the whole thing was a big waste of time…
Why get a systematic report done if you don't want any changes, suggestions or reform to actually happen. The only thing that has really come out of this is the fact that between KRUDD and Swanny neither of them really have a spine. Seems like Abbott has also decided that anything KRUDD says he says the opposite. Geez both contenders suck (again)! The WA papers are crying and I'm sure there will be a bit more sooking but even the crying is subdued. Anticlimax.

Sonya, I'll collect anything good for ya! Maybe some posters that say "Property Investors do it with depreciation" LOL! It is a shame you can't come but family and commitments are first.
As for the face….what about all the other blood thirsty ones? I might be lost in a sea of sharp eyed, sharp toothed property fiends!

Email MeBit of a non-event for property investors huh?! Good on you KRUDD for making sure you try to distance yourself from anything remotely scary or complex or controversial.
I think that the fallout from this will be pretty big. The Western half of Australia props up much of the Eastern half and they will slaughter the KRUDD govt over this. Where is the cash cow, KRUDD would like a steak…..
Should be interesting to read what happens next. The fallout from the foreign investors thing has been big and will only snowball in an election year. Mentioning tax reforms in an election year with a govt that has only been in for 1 term is lunacy. (Can you tell I am not a fan? lol)
Ahhh love Australia, I can have an opinion.

Email MeDefinitely just a very botched band aid job designed to slow people down, who lets face facts don't really need slowing down.
Cmon KRUDD I'm spending less, biz is down, retail is down…..whaddya want? Most people are piling money into their mortgages than into retail spending.
So while the country is watching this hand (the RBA) and bitching about rate rises what is KRUDD doing with his other hand? Tightening some internet censorship? "Fixing" some anti terror laws? Wheeling and Dealing? Good on him for trying out some propaganda and trying to put out fires… that he started.
BTW was talking today to a friend who immigrated here some years ago who had a good rant about foreign ownership and how they thought the whole situation was going south pretty fast. I don't you have many friends left KRUDD.
Out you go MR Prime Minister and don't let the door hit you in the butt.

Email MeHang on, hang on,
Brisbane was the only capital to record a fall, with house prices slipping 0.1 per cent in the March quarter, but up 9.1 per cent for the year to a median of $451,388.
LOL!
So it isn't really a fall if prices are up for the year?!
They have to have something to measure it against. Doesn't make it right. A lot of scientific theory is….theory. A lot of these figures are…..figures. Doesn't make them mean anything! Put a lot of figures together and then use some journalism, hey presto you have an article……

Email Meok Simple. It's good but there is like a huge BUT……………..what about Melbourne? Yeah ok a median of the whole country shows one thing but the article basically banged on about Melbourne being crazy. So the median is down (a little) spread over the country. But individual markets are still rising including the rainy and crazy Melbourne market.
So now what for Melbourne? Anyone got a crystal ball so I know whether to buy in Melbourne or Perth? I need an 18 mth time frame so If the magic 8 ball says "you must seek another path" or "ask again later" can someone let me know so I can plan my whole life around it!
Speculation is getting us nowhere and really quickly. Strategize and run with it, as long as there is enough profit in the deal, the market can drop and the return will still be worth it. If the market drops by a huge amount we are all stuffed and you better board up your windows.
Just my 2 cents (again)

Email MeI don't think anyone realised that a flood of people would come to stash their cash here. I think KRudd has even been taken by surprise.
Anyone wanna put a bet on whether this policy is his downfall in the next election? Most Aussies are pretty emotional when it comes to land, house, affordability.

Here are the earlier discussions from another thread.
I think that unless KRudd reverts back to the existing policies we as property investors just need to be aware that there is more competition and that this will sort of help us after we buy (depending on area) and will hinder us when we buy. Just need to keep buying, the more investment properties we have, the less anyone else can have!
It means a lot more people will try and hang on to the family home (if this policy continues) to give to children and grandchildren to ensure they have a house in the family.

Email MeThis is why it is so important for people to give other perspectives on property. It is very easy to live in a vacuum here with limited (soon to be more limited) information on other markets and what happens in other countries.
It is great when people like you two GOM and FWord can give us your perspective and stop ordinarily bullish people like me from crying into our tea cups. I have had my spoonful of concrete and have had my toughen up princess moment!
I'm back to the plenty of money out there mindset.
By the way FWord the Herald Sun = lowest common denominator.

Email MeGah, I'm just having a bad money day! Today in the FR there was an article about people in China buying apts. There were approx 12,000 buyers for 100 odd apts. Makes 100 people at a Sat open look tame! At least if you are competing here it is only with 5 people maybe 10 not 12,000!
Gotta put it all in perspective, very easy to take the emotional road when looking at prices in the suburb you live in!

Email MeThe only problem is if you actually want to live in one of these areas as an Aussie. Bully for you. I personally would like to live where I live but wont have much chance of even renting here soon. Guess it is my bad luck for being a citizen of this country. Thanks Kaptain KRUDD.
He should give other political leaders tips on how to sell the shirt off his back, it's made in China anyway.

Email MeDuckster, it is sad to think that greed will win the day…especially this weekend.
I saw a snippet on aca or tt (and yes i know it isn't the most accurate journalism) and they highlighted the fact that many higher end properties in good locations were bought by foreign owners who have never lived in them. These properties have been vacant since they day they were purchased.
Australia needs immigration. We have a unique country and we need to import workers who will keep the economy running. These people as well as the current 20 odd million people need somewhere to live. If there are empty houses…….and empty for 10 years, 20 years…..
The houses where I rent have gone up 500k in 6 mths. So you tell me. A million plus neighborhood is not first home buyers. Ok so property can double 7-10 years. The price has doubled in four years with much of the movement in the last 6 mths.
Fine so not everyone can afford or buy blue chip property but…..
Are these OS buyers falsely inflating the market?
Will the price drop when KRUDD flips and changes the laws back?
Are we paying for interest rate hikes that do not need to happen, due to false inflation signals triggered by outside buyers?
At first I was like buh, OS buyers whatever. Now I am watching my particular market get to a point where the median price may well be 2 mil next week.
There has been a sharp spike in prices here and I think the lack of reporting is meaning that the Australian public are being kept in the dark on this.Time for KRUDD to go. The silence and cover up BS needs to go, along with his Internet Censorship as well.
