Hi Alison
My wife and I have just finished this, It worked out pretty good and we are now living in the moved house. All up the cost to move the house was $36 000 with the other major expenses being $4000 for plumbing, $4000 for electrical. The grand total was $85 000 plus $16 000 for Council costs.Depending on the state of the house you might not have to do much renovation beside the obviouse like painting and fixing cracks.
We got our house for free as long as we had the site clean and ready for the developer to build.
As I said before it worked out great for us, but I must say that it was a lot of work.
Do your homework and do the numbers.
Good luck
Hi
I have just finished my house relocation and it worked out great. It was a lot of hard work but well worth it in the end.
My major costs were as follows:
removal and restumping =$35000
plumbing =$3400
electrical =$3000The other costs such as repainting and fixing up all the cracks in the walls all depends on what the condition of the house is like after it is moved. I just fixed and filled all the cracks my self and it would of only cost me about $150 to do. There are a few fees that the council may charge you, so I would check with the local council for that. The council would also have all the informatin on Site and driveway restrictions
All up it cost about 100k but this includes putting in a double garage with paved drive way, large undercover deck, fencing the whole property, excavation, tree removal, painting interior and exterior and landscaping just to name a few things.
This was a great learning experience for me and financial well worth it in the end. Just remember it is not as easy as just picking up a house and putting on some land and that’s it. There are a lot of other things that need to be done that you might not think of so make sure you do your home work.
Hope all goes well and if you have any more question I would be glad to help.
P.S.
I did my house removal in NSWHi Pete
I agree with Dian it is a lot different to just plain building a home because of all the coordination and organizing one must do.
I am just weeks away from completing my house removal. I have placed the home on a block a land with a excisting house on it and sub divided it which I think will give me the best result. My costs were similar to Dian’s. My tip would be to find a flat block.
Have fun
Thanks for the info. Sounds like fun.

You might need to add the costs of hooking up the plumbing and eletrical works to the house to!
These are just a few things that might need to be looked at.
Keep the dream alive and i hope you find a good block.

Hi BillyT
At the moment I’m doing just that. I have bought a house on a corner block of land with which I’m moving a house onto the block. The house to move was easy to find I had a choice of 2 and just have to pay all the moving cost and i get it for free.
The first things to do is to check on the local councils rules and regulations on sub-division and make sure that the land you are looking at will fit the rules and that you can move the house there.I found that corner blocks are the best to work with, but large blocks with a house at the front and big back yards will work as well.
There are lots of costs involved in doing this so make sure you do your home work.
A lot of work is involved but if done correctly you sould come out on top.
good luck
