I'm a realtor in Edmonton, AB. Canada.  Regarding investing in Canada, I would ask you what your goals wold be, and where abouts are you looking to invest, and what is your exit strategy?  There is lots of opportunities, but in the end its what fits your goals is what determines if it is right for you.

Edmonton, Alberta is a huge component to the Oil and gas industry which is beginning to make moves again with oil prices doing well.  I have been in real estate investments for 2 years but am now a realtor here.  I grew up hear and know the area well.  There are many smaller towns around Edmonton that will also be growing in the next few years that will do excellent as well.
