    We are about to use equity out of our PPOR as a deposit to purchase an investment property. We have approached our current non-bank lender, and now a broker. Both have wanted us to use our current house as collateral against the investment property.

  • Hi,Thanks for your reply. Yes we would be eligible for FHOG. We are renting at present, both of us have been for some years. Another idea we had was to buy a bigger block, and build a second house on the back and sell it off, while we live in the front house. We could then rent or sell that to buy our 'dream' home later on.

    Having rented in SA and Vic, I can say that in SA the owner pays water up to a certain amount, and the tenant if excess water is used. In Victoria the tenant pays for all their water use. (A better way I believe as u can monitor your water use – important in drought conditions in an already dry country).
