Ok, fair comment, so for some reason I took it worse then it really was. I must say it really pushed my buttons as did the poor kids stranded in Lake Alexandrina a week or so ago. Maybe its just the father in me.[tired]

Was any one elses buttons pressed by this story?

Not suggesting anything of the sort. Wondering IF we are even talking about the same interview by the same reporter. Maybe the transcript is edited, maybe my memory is worse then I thought ….LOL

Nothing personally directed at you Richmond

I’ve just had a look at the interview, and the question (in my opinion) was in context. This is a transcript…

Mother: I’M HARD HIT I MEAN I’VE LOST TWO OF MY OWN, BUT I HAD TWO OTHER BABIES THAT BELONGED TO SOMEONE ELSE.. AND IT THINK THAT’LL TORMENT ME FOR THE REST OF ME LIFE..

Reporter: IS THAT WORSE THAN LOSING YOUR OWN?

Mother: YEAH BECAUSE I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM..

So, now we have the facts, I think the question was in context, because it came after the mother herself referred to the “other children”

Not quite as bad as it was first painted.

    cheers

I wish I had it on tape cos my memory serves me differntly then the transcrpt.

    Thanks for your reply Richmond.

I was just wondering if you may educate me a little about news reporting please?

Before the interview goes to air is it edited? If so by whom? I would have assumed that if it was edited the editor would be experienced and choose what does and what does not go to air? Or is it edited by the reporter himself or herself and put straight to air?

Why would this actually be put on the air?

I suggest that any one considering spotting conacts a good real estate lawyer 1st.

I have done this as mentioned in a previous post and in SA I really dont think this would suffice as it can be deemed as recieving a reward in the sale of real estate.

I will however put Steve’s comment to my lawyer.

Please note tho laws may vary from state to state.

Well done Mini and good luck.

Personally I really don’t know if all the work, time and expense are worth it, not to mention the risk. Spotting in NZ however comes under a whole new set of rules that I have not fully investigated at this point.

I am however still working on ironing out a few issues and hopefully be back to spotting soon. Other wise I may just have to stick with JV’s

Whats the vacancy rate? Council Rates.

I have found a few blocks of flats with similar returns , however taken the above into consideration they wernt viable.

Thus far it sounds good, but do your due dilligence.

Hi Russ, I guess the next question is how many in your house were smoking? What if u had 2 or 3 heavy smokers living in the house and then they would invite all their freinds around on a reg basis for card games etc? This painter has showed me an example and its not a pretty site.

Sugar soap is great but has it limits ………LOL

Well I don’t know if I would implement this rule myself, but a professional painter once told me that rented properties should never allow smoking inside. Reason being it stains the ceiling, and if smoking on a heavy basis the old paint has to be taken off and ceiling resealed which is a very costly exercise. That way if there is any smoke damage it’s their responsibility to have it corrected.

    Hi Kay

I am confused about your last post on this thread.

It seems that the question was asked months ago and resurfaced again about what Steve actually said and was offering. This question has been answered. The only thing that Steve could possibly be guilty of is the lack of understanding of the English dictionary worst possible case scenario (who in this forum has it mastered)? But it seems (and I saw the media watch show myself just today) that channel 7 agree on what Steve said he offered, but as per usual TT over sensualised it.

Due diligence????? For what? You plan on entering the MAP program? We are talking about a claim that was made and stated by the same program trying to crucify Steve that channel 7 agreed with Steve in writing that it was control of a million $ of property.

To me honestly it just seems we are going around in circles trying to crucify another tall poppy.

Kay we have had some great convos both in private and upon the forum and have respect for you. But certainly have to disagree with you strongly on this one…….LOL

When im put in a position where my emotions start to run hot for what ever reason I attempt to stand back and ask why and most times its due to MY own lack of action. So at the end of the day it’s my own doing and myself im upset with. It works for me. After all the only person I can change is myself and if I put my energy into trying to change things out of my control and or other people then im wasting my energy. If I can accept the blame and responsibility myself for everything that goes wrong in my life then I am able to change it. Blame outside influences then I lose my power and control. Having said that im certainly not always successful…….LOL

    Rubbish.
OK, if it’s not, define ‘spotting’ and show me the law I’m breaking.

Mini, I have had lawyers here in SA look into it for me, I don’t have the law in front of me, however it is along the same lines as selling used cars with out a license (LMVD) other then your own personal vehicle.

There was a little loophole that existed buy the property under your name and or nominee, but that has now been closed up. Of course im talking about SA here, but I am under the belief that REIA were behind it (so im sure it is more then likely they have done this nationwide) and willing to prosecute with a $20,000 fine.

The only way around it is to find a willing licensed RE agent for a fee to finalise any deal. Not an easy task as the insurance premiums are at a all time high and RE agents are finding the risk reward factor not worth it.

Bottom line if you spot and the purchaser is not happy with the purchase at the end of the day the spotter has no legal leg to stand on in court to my knowledge.

But trust me im still working on things here as im finding so many properties that meet the 11 sec rule, that I have actually stopped looking for a while, and working on a solution. May even have to get RE license but that takes about 2 years.

    I hope this helps Mini

Holland is an interesting option. I’ve been to Amsterdam only once. Great place. You’re fortunate to have a dual passport. Won’t the difference in currency value be a bit of a killer?

Yes the currency could be a problem, I havnt really looked into it, however With the dual passport I would be able to work over there and come back with more money then working here (using the current currency equation). Thus far its just a thought worth looking into.

Elves your post reminds me of a little story in my life that taught me a lot.

When I was about a 2nd year apprentice as a fitter a very heavy duty press in the blacksmith shop was chattering on the way down and every fitter in the place had looked at it and couldn’t work out why this was happening.

I was then asked to go fix it (not knowing the history so in no way psychologically disadvantaged). Every one was laughing as I wheeled my tool trolley across to work on the press. 1st thing I did was take the top of the oil reservoir to watch the oil being sucked out while in operation. It worked fine, np’s at all. Put the lid back on and it started to chatter again. This went on a few times then had a look under the lid, it has a gasket there that was preventing to let air in to replace the oil being pumped out. I removed the gasket and the press worked as good as new, job done in about 5 minutes.

When I returned every one was laughing and made comments like “did you give up already?” Obviously I had no idea what the big deal was, I just said it’s fixed and went on to my next job. Every one still laughing walks off to check it out and sure enough it was working as good as new. They all come back with confused looks on their faces and asked what I had done. I told them some one had made up a gasket for the lid preventing air to replace the oil. As it turns out it was one of the most experienced and with out debt the fitter with the most respect in the place for his job that had done it, and every one else had overlooked it. He said his reason for doing it was to keep dust out, so I suggested we just put an air filter on it and that way we can replace the oil with clean air and return the gasket.

The moral of the story it was the most inexperienced that found the problem, why? Possibly because alot of knowledge sometimes gets us looking at things in a more complicated way and have us overlooking the simple things.

And thats good enough for me.

HERE HERE, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Even if Steve did make a small mistake in his English, does that make him any less genuine?

Tall poppy syndrome is just another way of stating jealousy.

Got to love Australia, We love the underdog, the battler, and we love to see him succeed, but once the battler does we wana knock him down. GO FIGURE. I understand jealousy to be an emotion we feel when some one else does or achieves something that we know we can achieve ourselves but haven’t.

Why are we not helping Steve build on his positives? Is it because he has done what we haven’t?

We all have negative traits, we all make mistakes, but the idea in life I believe is to help people be the best they can be and not only is Steve doing this for himself, he is also doing this for others.

In my mind Steve has succeeded in what many others and I have not, and it’s over coming self-sabotage. To be honest one of my reasons that I self sabotage myself is the fear of being knocked down.

Good on ya Steve, keep up the good work. We all make mistakes mate and im sure you will make many in the future, but PLEASE don’t let that stop you from achieving your goals, and helping others.

    Regards Bear

PS The more mistakes we make in life the more we achieve and learn.

Kay I couldnt agree more, Infact I know of some one at present that owns no property at all, but has been investing for many years and has good knowledge of R/E, he has sold it all and invested it in other areas awaiting for the time to buy more property.
