    g’day battz71

best when you offer (and counter offer)
is to always have a get out clause. i wouldnt recommend having 3 of them though as it will only put the vendor off.

also make sure the subject is worded properly. ie sunject to inspection/finance/valuation to ‘buyers satisfaction’

    cheers

once you get a basic knowledge try reading the australian financial review. the weekend edition is great for a broader perspective.

if it embarrasses you to be seen reading the a f r
you can slip it inside a copy of hello magazine or English football weekly.

    sjs

excellent article. makes sense to me!!

i think we tend to look at the smaller economic picture ie interest rates, unemployment, historical highs and lows.

sometimes its much simpler than that.

ie we all owe too much.

rk says that it is a defeatest attitude to say ‘i cant afford that’ ie he says that we should be brave and say ‘i will find a way to afford that’

well, maybe hes wrong and we are all being a tad shortsighted

(this topic comes up once every 2 weeks, and it usually creates a frenzy – hehehehe[:D])

we are a good example of how not to save. i have earnt 6 figures since my mid 20’s. but then took a year off to finish my masters (cost money) then worked overseas. my wife earns pretty good money too.

if anyone tells you living as an expat in asia is a great way to save then think again. we travelled alot, ate out alot, and generally saved about the same as when i earnt half the amount in australia.

bare in mind where i lived it cost about 10 bucks for a beer and a night out with yr partner would set you back atleast 250 bucks

refering to another topic if i was giving a young person some advise on saving i would say that apart from writing everything down that you spend, try and make a financial committment as early as possible. ie in yr early 20’s have an investment where you ‘must’ make monthly contributions. it ddoesnt have to be a huge amount
but i think its a good idea. not only will you save money but hopefully the asset will appreciate in value. so i wld get into a fund or buy a block of land or a cheap rental house etc etc

    cheers

g’day and thanks for everyones replies and your best wishes. we have just entered our third trimester so not long to go.

melanie – i love pugs and they are great names.
thought about isabell and madeline but i think they are the most common at the moment.

patrick aka mini – thats the astrid i was thinking of. my wife is very stylish (compared to me anyway) so if we do choose that name im sure she could pull it off.

aaron – i tried your suggestion and we had 6 of the local dogs come running….

wayne – verena goes on the list …. cheers

parmst – very coy of you. what sport shld we be looking out for???

luckyphil – yes kids can be cruel with names. we are tring to take that into account. my spin on indigo was that she might be called ‘dingo’.

anyway if the worst thing that happens is that she gets a little ribbing because of her name than so be it.

tough decision – im no frank zappa but i aint too traditional either!

    any more suggestions???

    hi there

i reckon the only way to start saving is in the first 2 months write down everything you spend. and this means everything.

    this will mean

    – you will know what you are spending your money on
    – every night when you write down what you spent yr money on you get this guilty feeling when you bought that extra magazine or suit etc etc

work on building up as much guilt as possible

seriously though – you will be amazed how effective this is.

    cheers

junior – one of the major truths to accruing wealth is that you must eat! unless you are a supermodel, and if you are a carlton supporter i doubt that very much.
