its not as simple as saying i like this person because they have a nice car and nice house. its more subtle. its like saying i am friends with these people we have lots incommon. well why fdo you have lots in common. the answer usually has something to do with status. ie we grew up in the same area (socio econmic background), we went to the same…[Read more]

acey – your last message just described ‘status envy’ very well. you should write a book..

ah yes – but why do we like some people, and dislike others. he opines that we like people ‘mostly’ because of the status they have. he reckons snobs have a lot to answer for……

we hate them but we wanna be accepted by them…

most of us dont have enuf introspection to know exactly why we are attracted to certain types of people…this to me…[Read more]

just finished the book. he recommends some of the following

    philosophy
    christianity/religion
    bohemia

    amongst others

basically saying all these things give people an awareness of how small they are in the scheme of things. submitting to higher ideals forces etc. will put statuis into perspective – and once this is done you and me will feel less…[Read more]

you know in the history of the world – work as we know it is a relatively new phenomina. it wasnt until we learnt how to be farmers that we actually started to work in jobs for other people…..

    setmefree – i hear ya…

the biggest cause of stress in the workplace is ones relationship with peers/bosses etc. if you dont fit in a square hole, if your not a team player, if your slightly eccentric, or from a minority group, the workplace can be a scary place. the best organisations are designed to be supportive but unfortunatley very few…[Read more]

  • aussierogue replied to the topic Investing in Melbourne seems out of reach!! in the forum General Property 20 years, 5 months ago

g’day – if you are happy with a 5 pct type return near melbourne i would invest in places like warburton, healseville, ie 45 mins-1hr east to nth east of melbourne. 20k will still be enuf for a 10 pct deposit on a small house and these places although already popular in the last 12 months will continue to do well. sea changes already priced out of…[Read more]

if i saw a really good realestate deal ‘now’ i would buy. but really good needs to be discounted to spot. ie it needs to reflect where i think the market will be in 12 months. you will find that the market has already factored that in to some extent..

but generally there are great old saying like ‘the trend is your friend’ and there is…[Read more]

yep established houses cld go up in value. Phew for me!!! i just got in!

btw if youve got some excess cashflow maybe a time to buy some cheap blocks and hold on to them until town sewerage is up and running. its not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. def gonna happen mostly due to environmental concerns

  • aussierogue replied to the topic wislons prom area warning in the forum General Property 20 years, 5 months ago

jo – especially due this is the fastest growing area in victoria. huge growth last 4 years and heaps of speculators buying blocks keeping them for a year and then off loading them. blocks in these areas were wrth 20k 4 years ago. last week they were wrth 100k and now back to vrtually nothing.

what a rollercoaster. if you have an established house…[Read more]
