I don’t know Dan,
But I’m about to start looking for investors for a second oil company I’m setting up (first one was Merlin Petroleum – http://www.merlinpetroleum.com.au , now taking subscriptions for listing).
Sometimes defining what is an advertisement, what is an opportunity & what is someone talking about their experiences can be hard to…[Read more]

As an example of an underperforming asset, we’ve just sold one property that to our way of thinking hasn’t performed.
It has averaged 16% CG per annum over the last four years & positively geared the entire way (we did put 20% down). It is dual zoned for commercial use as well as residential, 20 seconds from the local shops & playground and only…[Read more]

I’ve used incorporator several times (including this week as a matter of fact) and find it a very easy system & well explained.
There’s not much that an accountant can explain that you cannot learn online.

Setmefree – something for you to think about.
Is it easier to stand up against a profession that has it’s ethics consistently questioned and is generally regarded one of the least trustworthy professions in the country?
Ot is it harder to stand-up against an establishment that is well-trusted but is rife with hidden corruption?
I think Jenman…[Read more]

I’d call this a high risk strategy.
What’s your risk-tolerance?
Also get a second & third opinion on the legalities – you don’t want to cross a line somewhere….

Wayne,
Interesting stuff. I’ve read about the inter-bank loans issues previously & agree it’s an area of concern.
On balance the US government has an interest in maintaining stability & will step in as it has done to resolve this type of issue.
As it also did with airlines after 9/11 to prevent many of them collapsing.

James,
Trusts provide more security than companies
Look beyond ‘limited liability’.
And consider using a corporate trustee in any event.

Honesty is the best policy.
Being ‘nice’ primarily means to me saying what people want to hear.
What people want to hear isn’t necessarily what they need to hear.

I suggest you extensively research Trusts before forming a company for buying property.
A company is not generally regarded as the best vehicle for property investing – even if your focus is on less than 12 months turnaround on property.
