All Topics / Legal & Accounting / Need an accountant and a financial advisor
I am trying to find an accountant experienced in IPs in Melbourne (west side ok but no more than 30mins drive in other directions from CBD), Ballarat, Bendigo or Geelong. Willing to travel.
I am also interested in finding a financial advisor – can anyone recommend one they have used.
Hi John
Sorry cant help you with an Accountant in Melbourne as mine is in SE Qld and form clients travel 1000's of km's to see him.
What do you need a Financial Adviser for?
Remember if it is to do with lending or loan structuring they are not licensed to offer you that advise unless they hold a Credit License.
That iis the domain of the good old Mortgage Broker.
Cheers

AndyHi John
Like Richard said – with technology, distance these days is not an issue providing you can write an email and scan/fax documents.
Last week I dealt with clients from every state accept NT and even a couple from o/s
I know Richard is in Canada right now and no doubt still putting in some hours with his customers across Oz and overseas.
There’s no need to limit your search to a 30 minute drive when looking for good advice from any professional.
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback –
In the meantime I have made an appointment with an accountant recommended to me.
Andy thanks for your link – had a look at the website – I particulary liked the page that said they offered advice on what is deductable / depreciable before renovating a rental property. – would have been so handy to have them as my accountant 12mths ago. Their website is more informative than the other person I had recommended.
My next question is – Should I have an initial meeting with at least two accountants and then make a decision?

You welcome John. I’m new in this forum but now I will try to use it more often.
Answer you question, I’ve used about 3 accountants for the last 10 yrs. Like Jamie said you may have to pay twice.
You can always ask them questions and see how good they are. Let me know, I have some questions if you need it.
The one I gave you, he knows what he is doing and experienced in property. Just give him a call and ask him.
Remember, tax return time now, they all very busy.Good luck and Happy investing
