Interesting bits of information comparing the effects of the March 11 disaster of last year on traditionally central areas such as Tokyo – where substantial plunges in supply were, surprisingly, more than compensated for by hugely elevated supply in remote radiation-free metropolitan centres such as Kyushu & Chugoku.

Our recommendation for 2012 has long been to purchase in Fukuoka prefecture, aiming for Fukuoka city (Kyushu's unofficial capital) and surrounding areas, and in fact most of the deals we close are there. Chugoku, labelled as safe by most Japanese, is a bit too close to Kyoto and Nagano in our eyes, where the farthest traces of unsafe radiation levels were detected late last year – we'd probably recommend to steer clear of Chugoko for another year or two at least, until the fallout picture becomes clearer.
