All Topics / Help Needed! / Pay with Credit Card?
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone tell me if I pay stamp duty/ deposit with a credit card and will there be extra costs involved? I heard I can only pay with bank cheque or direct debit. I just thought that I could put my rewards card to good use. Of course I will credit my credit card account before I use it to pay for the costs.
Cheers
JoIm not sure about stamp duty but i know OSR charge a 1.5% CC fee for most of their service….so 1.5% on a $15,000 bill is a bit of a whack….

Yep sounds quite hefty – I doubt the points will make up for it.

Some agents will accept a small part of the deposit on a card but be wary of the fees.
I am pretty sure that stamp duty must be paid by bank cheque – solicitors are pretty rigid on that count.
Unless you are buying the property for cash (and thus deal with the stamp duty yourself directly with your state revenue office), the bank normally pays the stamp duty on your behalf, so I suppose you'd have to speak to them. If you can somehow arrange to pay the stamp duty on your credit card, be aware it might be treated as a cash advance, so be sure to deposit all the monies in your credit card account before the stamp duty is charged. Otherwise you'll be paying heaps in interest.

Thanks for the info everyone. Yeah if there's a charge then it's definitely not worth it. But Thanks anyway
