All Topics / General Property / How to dispose of property contents?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask. Wasn't sure where else to post it!
To cut a long story short, we have to arrange to have a house cleared out of all it's contents at the request of the owner who has moved into a nursing home. In the U.K there are house clearing companies who come and give you a price for all of the contents and then, assuming you are happy with the quote, take absolutely everything that isn't nailed down away. Are there such companies in Australia? I can't seem to find anything online here in Brisbane that looks comparable.Assuming such companies do not exist, and bearing in mind that we would rather not throw it all away and don't really have time for weekend after weekend of garage sales, is there any other way you guys can think of? An auction house perhaps? Any advice at all would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
some 2nd hand furniture places will do job lots eg deceased estates etc otherwise Vinnies or Salvos will take most things.
Also try contacting local churches and ask if they have anyone in need of any furniture especially new Australian families that may need furniture and if they can pick up furniture.

Just be aware that some older people accumulate a lot of stuff over the years and a lot of it can be very valuable, a lot of older people have a habbit of collecting all sorts of things, antiques, old bottles, paintings, pottery ect ect. My wife had this expirience with her grandmother and they ended up finding a painting worth up to $30,000. I would be taking anything that looked remotely old or valuable and getting it valued, you never know what you may find.
Good luck with it all
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It's a bit of a headache this, but we'll get there in the end!
Cheers. Is the property in Victoria? I waitress with a lady who does this kind thing during the week for the state trustee's office, when elderly people are placed into homes
My father just had to do this for a friend in a similar situation. He arranged a clearing sale (although it was a town property) with a local agent and then whatever was left, he took in a couple of trailer loads to the dump (which has a dump shop, so anything still useful won't become landfill).
Hi. Unfortunately the property is in Brisbane, but duckster has given me a few leads which I will be following up so we'll hopefully get it organised soon. Thanks again.
Hi
Had the miserable task of clearing out my mother's place just after her passing. I rang her special friends so they could take anything they wanted, then bundled up the clothes and dumped at Vinnies in masses of garbage bags. The 3 cubic metre skip bin I ordered was deposited at the closest point to the back door, filled in one day, had to get it all in before the neighbourhood overnighters filled it for me.
About half the stuff I put in the skip bin then magically distributed itself all over the neighbourhood overnight. You can sell the rest to anyone on the lists mentioned in these posts.
Not very cheery, but cheers
