All Topics / Value Adding / External wall material – what’s it called?
Hi All,
We're currently having some plans drawn up for a townhouse development and we need to submit information regarding what building materials we'll be using. It's a two storey townhouse and we wanted brick on the lower storey and a sort of cladding that looks like render on the top storey – but I don't know what this material is…does anyone have any ideas what I'm talking about??
I see a lot of new townhouses that have this look but don't know what the material is, it's just smooth looking and painted, looks like render. I saw something on a website that looked like the thing, it was talking about expanded polystyrene sheets that get fitted to the timber, but it had a proprietary name called 'TRW fibreclad' (no, I'm not affiliated with them at all, nor trying to promote them) – I'm just looking for the generic name for this material. If anyone does know what this material is, can you let me know the name – and if you happen to know a bit about it…err…such as costs – I'd be really interested to know if it would be more expensive to build the upper storey from this material than it would to have it built using weatherboards.
Any help or suggestions appreciated!
Cheers,
Kaz
Hey Kaz,
You don't mean 'Blue board' ?
Cheers
that & acrylic render.
Thanks – is blue board a cement sheeting?
I spoke to a builder mate – who also didn't know exactly what it was called – but said there is a foam type product and an aerated cement type product. He said not to get the aerated cement one as it's more expensive and hard to work with on an upper storey.
Any thoughts on that?
Cheers,
KazThanks – I think they are the sort of thing that I'm after. Seems that no one has a generic name for it, just a bunch of proprietary names!
Cheers,
Kaz
