    Hi.

I am looking for some advice regarding 'legal height/habitable rooms' for UPSTAIRS !!      I know the laws and regs inrelation to legal height etc when you build underneath a raised house.

Like most pre war homes in Brisbane, we have a sleepout.    We are thinking of moving the room we have in the middle of the house to the sleepout.  Although due to the way the roof is, the ceiling in the room will not be 'legal height' in its entirety.    Are the laws different for upstairs?  I know public perception is that its ok.

    Hope that made sense.

the BCA is pretty clear in requiring ceiling heights in habitable rooms to have a minimum height of 2400mm. Provided that the majority of the room exceeds 2400mm (to compensate for the low areas), then the certifier may approve the configuration.
