    Hi all,

I wonder if I could call upon your vasts experiences to help me out in my current situation.

I am currently between jobs, having studied Accounting and Asian Studies at uni, and working in taxation for 2 years, I felt that I needed a change. After some 'soul searching' I found property. I definitely see property as the medium for my future wealth (hopefully!) and would like to start investing. Alas I do need some income again, and thought why not get a job in property and be able to learn at the same time. I took a liking particularly to property development and would like to branch into that area.

As its quite hard at the moment for a new developer to get off the ground (plus without experience, an unwise move), I have been trying to gain employment with an established property developer with no success – not even at an administrative role or for unpaid work experience. I have even tried REIWA, API, UDIA and they were all of limited help as to what I could do to get in besides to keep trying. There are still a couple of places left that I can apply to but besides that I see no other way except to get more study done.

So my action plan is either to:

          1) Obtain a sales rep or property management qualification and work in those lines for a while to build up experience;or
          2) Obtain a masters in Urban and Regional Planning (and hopefully getting a part-time position within the field while
studying) and work in planning for a while or try to get in to a development firm.

What do you guys think? Does anyone have any suggestions or industry experience? Or for anyone who has been in the same boat, what did you do?

Sorry for the long ramble but I really would appreciate any response or ideas.

    Thanks

    Ranjeev

Maybe go work in building / contruction and keep up the accounting studies.

If you understand money and can manage projects / complete your own improvements; you would be laughing.

    Hi GSXR,
Remember if all else fails, there are so many areas you could seek work in that will allow you to finish further study, and of course discretely look around meanwhile you are getting paid. Accounting comes to mind of course, but banking & general real estate sales or property management will also look good on a resume when you are looking for work in your chosen area.
    All the best.
