We’re renovating an old house, what needs to be done is to renovate bathroom, laundry, separate toilet, front and back porch. After getting several quotations from different builders, we decided to sign contract with this builder who sounds promising at the time. The contract has clearly listed out things need to be done and relevant trade work are also listed which including plumbing and electrical work. Now we’re almost 3 weeks from commencing, the whole project is not done and the builder turn around saying his electrician demands the whole house to be rewired otherwise he refuses to do any electrical work, and that will cost extra 5-10k which the builder is not going to cover. He said we either need to pay for it or we can get some other electrician to do it. Now for us this is totally unacceptable, giving it is the builder’s own fault not having those details checked properly before giving the quote, also there is no single line mentioned about variance cost either.
Has anyone experienced such situation before? Or can anyone kindly give us some advise of what we should do in this situation please?
Do you have drawings and a spec that details the work to be completed?
