I am thinking of putting a cheap laminate kitchen bench top to replace a 50 year old one in an IP.Does anyone know where to get a good deal in sydney north of the harbour bridge?

    Hi,
Depending on your sizes you may be able to purchase ready made from either bunnings or ikea. There are also companies that specifically only sell benchtops, i generally google or use yellow pages. Sorry I'm in SA but it may help….

I agree with Podney.  Bunnings has them for quite reasonable prices.

Our last one was done by Kitchenland however they are no longer in business – but suss out the North Shore Times newspaper, possibly Nobbys Kitchens (they still do alot of project/spec work) or venture out to Silverwater Rd where you should still find a few. Alternatively, check out the adverts for demo sales and you will pick up a great kitchen for less than $1k

If you don't want to do the install yourself, check out some of the larger kitchen suppliers in the western suburbs – everyone travels.

    Hi there guys

Just recently renovated my kitchen all on a budget for under $1000, painted the old kitchen and cupboard doors, new handles, widened the existing bench top to make it more modern looking, then re-laminated, new door handles, and tile the lot.

Here are a before and after picture

    The finished Product

    Hi again Shanematt

The floor are actually just a pure white gloss tile, picked them up for $12square metre from my local tile warehouse as left over stock they wanted to get rid of. bargain

    Hi, Nick

I like your 'new' kitchen. Am embarking on a small reno ourselves, and going to change the cabinet handles and repaint the cabinet doors.

    Very nice.

    Regards

    Nicklee88

Am I correct in assuming the $1,000 was materials only, or did you have some professional help laying the laminate and/or floor tiles?

    looks great

I didn't mind the IKEA benchtops we used in a recent reno, but I wouldn't recommend their cheapest one (simluated granite in laminate). Can't remember what it is called, but it scratched too easily.

Have heard good things about the higher quality ones from Ikea (usually a solid colour laminate without the printing, which is what scratched), and if you're handy you can install it yourself.

    Hi sonyasal

Nope $1000 was total cost for material. all labour was free by me and my father-in-law

HI i guess it would depend on whether you can do the work yourself, therefore not having to factor in labour costs. Also if you cupboard carcasses are in good condition and you only need to replace the bench tops and cupboard doors it is probably doable. Bunnings have what looks to be a reasonably good quality white vacuum sealed door

Goodluck, hope to see your end results posted on the site

    cheers

    sonya
