All Topics / Help Needed! / Job Hunt in Property Development Industry
Dear all the kind advisers,
I have been seeking a position which is closely related to property development businesses.
As I do not have an experience in the industry, I studied and obtained diploma of property to start with.
However, I found it is still very challenging to find a suitable job for me as many of the positions, including assitant roles, require solid experiences in the related field.
I understand that people with hands-on experience must possess adaptable fighting potential, thoughYet, I was wondering how someone new for the industry have an opportunity to get started.
Would you be able to give any tips for me to get started please?
Any useful website would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much
A knowledge of the industry helps. Read as much as you can about what it is you want to do. Research famous people to see how they got started and what made them. The squeaky door gets the oil. Send potential employers resumes. Ring them up a week later to see if they got it. Keep annoying them until they at least take the time to interview you. You'll piss some of them off but if any of them are looking for a go getter they might at least give you an interview. That's when all your reading and research will be invaluable.

Start your own. Start with a small deal and keep going bigger. That's how they started
Thank you very much, CHIS
I've been hesitating to follow up too much as I didn't want to bother potential employers.
But you are right. As long as they don't hire me, they'll never be my employersI'll change my attitude and see how it goes!
Thing is… as I usually send my resume through human resource agents, I cannot see who their clients are.
Perhaps, I should start directly sending my resume to developers… although I don't know many. You will be rejected many times. Don't let it bother you. Keep sending resumes and doing follow up calls. If they are impressed they will file your details for when a position is available. It's like cold calling. You will get 999 rejections for every 1000 calls. Don't take it personally. Build a bridge and keep going
Start talking to the specialist recruitment agencies – Hays, Judd Farris, Conduit etc either their property or construction section.
Better yet, find a job as a site labourer or in the office eg building cadet, estimator's offsider, real estate agent/property management (get to know who is in the industry).

Right! I need a give-it-a-go attitude after researching the market well.
Thanks again, CHIS!>IP Freely
Thanks for that
I didn't know about Conduit… I'll surely dig it!
Many positions of assistant property managemer also require some experience in the same field, but I've been applying for those roles as well so that I can get to know how things work outTakashi,
Have you tried visiting real estate companies or developers personally?
Are you eligible for any grants or schemes that would be of benefit for them to hire you as a trainee etc?
Do you have some other talent that might be of use? For example, your name Takashi (Japanese) makes me wonder if you may speak Japanese and there are companies that target Japanese investors for developments etc.C2
I don't really know what I'd be eligible for any grants which may be beneficial for my future employers
I might want to do some research about thatAs I can speak Japanese, I was sending my resume to some companies which seem to be trading with Japanese investors or firms, but I didn't properly follow up – I might have already missed some opportunities due to my negligence.
I appreciate your ideas
Hey, is this Tuk from BGS? Just wondering…..
There is an advert running in the Sydney Morning Herald on the last couple of Saturdays looking for a person to assist in development works – the hitch is they want $35k. The advert is in the business section (business for sale – Property Developer).
I'd approach it with some trepidation (a developer who wants you to pay for the experience? not likely – this is 2008 not 1908).

I love Bob Marley tunes, thoughI appreciate your info!
That's interesting ad, isn't it
