Hi, I have just joined this forum and cannot find any information about laminate flooring. I am currently doing some
small renos to my apartment and am going to put a laminate floating floor down.

Please post your experiences, laminate flooring information, brands, types, distributers and shops etc. Thankyou in advance.

    Hi Set,

I put my own laminate down around 5yrs ago and it is holding together really well. No visible signs of wear and tear or fading. I got mine from Ikea and it was really cheap and easy to install. There are potential problems with the boards such as repairing damages. Mine are glued to each other so it would be a pain if I had to replace a damaged board. You can get the ones that click together but I rekon they would swell up if any water got into the joins though would be easier to replace. If it's your own house then you should be ok but tenants may not treat them as well as you would. Get extra boards in case you do need to replace some down the track.

    Hope this helps,

    Ian

    Ok thanks Ian,

we are currently living in the apartment and plan to for another year or 2 before we turn it in to a rental. I have looked at the Ikea laminates, some are good. We are currently looking at the range Floorbrokers Australia has.  I think we will get someone to lay it for us, and if anyone can recommend anyone on Brisbane this would be great.

    cheers

I laid the Ikea glue together version through a kitchen, dining and living area about 8 years ago, and it's holding up extremely well. The installation was slow, but I'm quite pleased with the result – you can't kill the stuff. The glue-together stuff is less forgiving if you don't have a strong straight starting edge. I ended up with a few visible openings between some boards. It's more noticable because I chose a lighter colour – beech. Still looks good though,

About a year and a half ago I laid about the same area of the click together version. I would definitely go the click together version in future. It's qucker (about half the time) and I got a more even result. I went for a darker colour this time (Jarrah), and I'm very happy with it.

Make sure that you got permission from your body corporate to put floor boards.
They might require you to put additional acoustic mats.

    Thanks for the tips,

yes we have to put down an acoustic mat in accordance with Body Corporate. We are going for a click together flooring and hopefully this will be installed in the next 2 weeks

    Cheers

I put the click together stuff down all through the kitchen in an apartment. I had been told it would swell up if I got it wet, so I left an offcut in a sink full of water for 24 hours with no apparent effect. I had the accoustic foam down but still had complaints from below, so I have since had to put some rugs down as well.

The body corporate doesn't like it, but plenty of owners in the block have put down the same floors. I did mine 4 years ago and it still looks fantastic.
