All Topics / Legal & Accounting / Trusts – where and how do I find out more
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and know that the topic I raise has been discussed before, but what I'm looking for is the "definitive" source on the use of trusts that I can read myself before talking to an accountant who charges $500 per hour or so.
We currently have 2 IP's bought back a couple of years in joint names, we're now looking to speed up the growth of our protfolio significantly and grow it to 15-20 properties in the next 3 years. It might be too late to transfer the current 2 IP's we have into a trust given the costs associated, but I definately want to make sure we get the structure right before we go ahead with the next phase and acquire another 15 or so properties!
So, please, any suggestions on good books, internet sources where I can read up on the various structures and their benefits and drawbacks before I talk to an accountant?
Also, can anybody recommend a very good accountant (ideally in Brisbane) who has experience in dealing with overseas investors and is a property investor himself. Don't want someone cheap, want someone who is good.
Thanks,
ErikThere is heaps of info out there.
Look at these websites

Trust Structure Guide 2007 – costs about $300, written for accountants. you may find it in a uni libraryTax Magic. Written by http://www.gatherumgoss.com for the average person, easy to read $99 approx. well worth getting.
For the legal aspects, have a look at some second hand uni books which can be picked very cheap. UTS uni is a good one in sydney.
