    Hi all.
Does anybody know how to find out what price a property was sold for years ago?

Most local councils should be able to tell you, or try the titles office.

    Cheers,
    Marc.

The easiest way is to just ask the real estate agent, they normally have this in their paperwork. But it is a pretty useless figure. Eg I just looked at a house yesterday that sold for $63,000 back in 1988. So I know that if I buy the property for $180,000 the previous owner made $117,000 less expenses. Good on him.

If it is in NSW, send me the address and I can look it up on RP data. Otherwise go to the website of the Landtitles office and you can do a search for around $10.

    Hi Terry,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the property is in Victoria. I will take your advise and obtain the information from the titles office.
