All Topics / Legal & Accounting / Setting up Trusts via Internet
Hi guys
I read somewhere a while ago that it is possible to set up trusts over the internet at a cost substantially lower than an accountant would charge.
Has anyone done this? Is it a relatively straight forward process, or should I be enlisting the services of an accountant and spending the extra money?
There are lots of online legal services sites, just try searching Google. These sites will not, however, offer you the tailoring and advice that a solicitor or accountant will provide without you actually paying one of their professionals the normal consulting rate. So your best bet would be to see a professional face-to-face unless you know exactly how you want to put together your structure and tailor your trust deeds.
Yes, i have set up 3 online using http://www.lawcentral.com.au
You can join for free and go through the motions of making a trust, and only have to pay at the end if you want the finished product. Do this and see how you go, there are lots of useful tips along the way. Then decide if you need one set up by an accountant.
Another site is http://www.cleardocs.com.au

Maybe i’ll set up through an accountant for my first, and then once I know exactly what I want I can go it alone over the net.
Cheers for the advice
Yep, good idea.

On the topic of trusts….
Are there any restrictions on the people allowed in a trust for example are non-residents/citizens of Australia able to be in a trust?
Sure, but if non residents ever receive income they will be required to pay tax, and there are different tax issues for non residents.
