I have heard that if you have a mortgage on your house (which most people do I think) then you have to ask for permission from the lender when you want to do renovations.
    Has anybody heard of this?

This would make sense to me if they were extensive, but for small jobs I wouldn’t think so. Obviously you would have to ring the bank, they’re probably all different.

Sounds standard. Also normally have to notify them if you intend to rent it, if you’ve had any ‘clean up’ order or other violation of council laws, if you want to sell it etc. Which is fair enough, as it is in fact their house right up to the point where you’ve paid off the last cent.
Check the fine print on your mortgage contract.
