All Topics / Opinionated! / Landlords in Canberra take a bagging
In today’s news it stated Canberra has the most expensive rent in the country, with low vacancy rates Landlord’s discriminate against low wage earners, single parents or people on their own by upping the rent on their properties.
What do you all think, do we all drop our rents to accommodate lower welfare groups [blush2]or is the government expected to look after these people by offering more subsidised rent?
Or any other suggestions to this problem?Jenny1
My mum raised my brother & myself in canberra from around 1975 onwards while buying a PPOR and also holding down a second job to pay the bills & raise us 2 blokes (I’m 42 this year)…
She moved from tumut to canberra, as no real job future for us young guys there in the long run..
Single Mum – 2 young blokes to raise….
Sorry, i don’t really care about the latest headlines (EG Currentaffair) in the latest newspaper….

Sorry, 1975 should have read being around 1971 ? as i was in year 8 in highschool..
My Mum did a heap of stuff that i have learnt from. She basically did the hard yards and i have over the past 5 years learnt more.
Being an adult now plus lots of reading of books & also forums.I finally understand the commitment my mum did (as a super low wage earner) for my brother & myself..
Anyway,
I hate the crap papers & current affairs put out.

Go Canberra then, my inlaws live there and i finally convinced them to buy another property there..
I agree, the Media shouldn’t be the be all or end all of anything, it’s mostly comments out of content and exagerated facts.

This article was hilarious. First it said rents were too high. Then it noted that there wasn’t enough public housing so (implication) the burden falls on investors. So the tenants association proposes what? To end negative gearing! While those who know me know that I’m no fan of neg gearing, what is going to be achieved by killing off further investment? Higher rents, of course.
These guys!
