Meat processor CMP Rangitikei says it will be advertising for around 65 new employees for a night shift at its Greatford plant over the next month. The expansion should be complete by November and will take the workforce to 230, including meat workers, management and livestock buyers. CMP Rangitikei kills and processes lambs.

The plant was built on a green-field site near Marton after a long resource consent process.

It was commissioned in March, employing 100 people to kill lambs five days each week. That has grown to a workforce of 165.

Plant manager Brian Harris says it now has two day shifts which lets the company run a seven-days-a-week operation.

He says CMP Rangitikei workers will take annual leave as stock numbers traditionally dip over the next month.

“But then we build up through October and November, killing lambs for the pre-Christmas chilled trade and that’s when we’ll need a night shift working.”

CMP Rangitikei is not expecting any recruiting problems.

“We haven’t done the advertising, so I don’t want to be presumptuous, but we were heartened by the interest when the first two shifts were advertised,” Mr Harris said.

The plant is in a central location for workers coming from Manawatu, Wanganui and Rangitikei and the plant is within half an hour of all those.

Contractors have now completed their work at the site and containers which were scattered around the plant have gone.

Landscaping is under way, with hundreds of trees being planted up the long drive as well around the plant.

    Hi Westan
    Good news for Marton.
I could never find a deal there unfortunately, went through in Jan this year and there was a couple of places but they had offers on them.
Went through April absolutely Zippo: plus the prices were really high, well above any CF+ out come. So I guess if you have property there it is good news.

    Kerwyn.

    Hi Kerwyn

yes deals showing 10% are near impossible to find in Marton. I put the post of for those who already own in Marton.

i’ve encouraged a lot of people to buy in Marton and many have and have had huge capital growth and rental growth also.

I’ve actually just put 2 properties on the market in Marton- but the returns are well under the 10% investors on this forum are after. I’m selling, not because i don’t like Marton, its just that i think that i can use the money in the USA better.

    regards westan

    Westan,

Interesting about Marton, thanks for the info.

I am interesting in the USA market? Are you looking at property there? Are there good returns?

What special arrangements did you have to set up to buy property there?

    Thanks
